  • Patent number: 6684035
Abstract: A method and structure that tests a process control patch in an electrophotographic printer by observing/creating a beginning recording medium lead edge location, which establishes a references point on a transportation device. Next, the invention tracks the position of the transport mechanism within the printer by starting a counter triggered by the medium lead edge signal or a virtual medium lead edge signal. The invention then prints the process control patch on the transportation device. The invention identifies positions of the transportation device and process control patch locations once the process control patch passes through a densitometer sensor. The invention establishes a patch testing area determined by a calculated patch trigger point and user configurable sample window parameters. The difference between the threshold-detected leading edge and trailing edge represents the width of the process control patch. The invention tests the calculated patch width for accuracy.

  • Patent number: 6683287
Abstract: A device and process for fixing a toner onto a substrate or a printed material, especially a sheet-shaped printed material, preferably for a digital printer, which is characterized in that the printed material that has the toner is irradiated with microwaves from at least one microwave emitter, and is heated to melt the toner, and that a toner is used which exhibits a sharp drop of the modulus of elasticity G′ from its solid to its liquid state when it is heated. Preferably, the ratio of the value of the modulus of elasticity G′ of the toner according to the invention at the reference temperature value, calculated from the starting temperature at the beginning of the glass transformation of the toner plus 50° C., to the value of the modulus of elasticity G′ at the starting temperature itself is <10−5.

  • Patent number: 6682163
Abstract: Detection of crosstrack aberrations of registration marks in order to prevent color errors during multicolor printing. The detection of crosstrack aberrations of registration marks is with a single sensor which detects each triangle as a registration mark per color selection, whereby the triangles are each assigned a color of the multicolor printing. Sensor values are detected and formed from these differential values.

  • Patent number: 6680782
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating documents using a raster image processor operated in a low resolution mode to generate a low-resolution bit-mapped image from received print data containing a coded page description language. The low resolution page is then transmitted to a frame-store. The frame-store image is then interpolated by an interpolator from a low resolution image to a higher resolution image for use in a printer to produce a document at the higher resolution.

Abstract: A method and structure for automatically preparing a scatter proof of a personalized print job that analyzes a personalized print job file to identify recurring content elements, extracts the recurring content elements, and arranges the recurring content elements to generate a scatter proof print image. The method for extracting selects a subset of the recurring content elements to be extracted and arranged on the scatter proof print image. The method further generates meta data associated with the personalized print job that indicates which content elements are the recurring content elements. The meta data is contained within the personalized print job. The method provides user input to determine which of the recurring content elements will be included in the subset.
