Patents Assigned to Nicklaus Golf Equipment Co.
  • Patent number: 6695937
Abstract: A golf club head is comprised of cryogenically treated steel resulting in the striking face having a reduced face thickness of between 0.115 inches and 0.130 inches, and therefore, a reduced striking face mass. Extra material which is eliminated from the striking face, is distributed in other areas of the club head to enhance performance. In an iron club head embodiment, the club head includes a heel portion, toe portion, bottom sole portion, top ridge portion, hosel portion, striking face, rear surface, and peripheral mass on the rear surface which forms a rear cavity. A cantilevered mass extends from the bottom sole portion toward the top ridge portion within the rear cavity, spaced apart from the rear surface. In a wood club head embodiment, the club head includes a hollow body having an inner cavity delimited by a sole portion, a striking face, a heel portion, a toe portion, and a crown portion which links the striking face, toe portion, and heel portion.

  • Publication number: 20030203764
Abstract: An iron golf club head includes a heel portion, a toe portion, a sole portion, a top portion, a hosel portion, and a striking face having a front surface and a back surface. A peripheral mass is disposed on the back surface, which defines a first cavity. A cantilevered mass extends from the sole portion toward the top portion within the first cavity. The cantilevered mass includes a rear surface, which defines a second cavity in which a weight medallion is disposed. The weight medallion includes a high-density portion and a low-density portion, providing a customizable weighting device for controlling right or left shot tendencies from which golfers suffer. By positioning the high-density portion of the weighted medallion near the heel or toe, depending on the golfer's shot tendency, longer and straighter shots are achievable.

  • Patent number: 5516106
Abstract: A golf club head having improved weight distribution comprising an integral hollow metal body with a bottom wall including a cavity recessed inwardly of the body throughout an extended area which lies rearwardly of the front striking face and inwardly of the heel and toe such that the ground engaging sole area of the head comprises a front rail portion adjacent the front striking face and side rail portions joined to the front rail portion and extending toward the rear wall. The side rail portions disposed between the center of percussion and the heel and toe areas. The recessed cavity has a size and depth sufficient to result in a concentration of club head weight in the area surrounding the center of percussion and to produce an elevation in the center of gravity of the head relative to the ground engaging sole area.
