Abstract: To provide a method for cutting a glass material wherein the glass material can be certainly cut a glass gob having a uniform quality and a uniform temperature distribution, without being deformed or damaged. Upon cutting a glass material 20 discharged from a glass material reservoir 10 into a glass gob 21 at a predetermined size by left and right cutting blades 91, 92 which come close to or away from each other in a horizontal direction, said cutting blades 91, 92 are opposed to the other and are translated in such a way that the movement occurs in a forward direction from stand-by positions P, P1 and in a downward direction (S1) to cut the glass material (C), and thereafter, in a further downward direction and in a rearward direction (S2), and thereafter, in an upward direction to return back to said stand-by positions (S3).

Abstract: A single drive mechanism for simultaneously driving plungers of a plurality of metal molds in each of the sections by employing an output cost-efficient electric motor as a mechanism for driving the plungers. The novel plunger drive mechanism makes it possible to correctly and efficiently mold the articles without causing defect even when the glass material is fed in varying amounts into the metal molds. In molding a glass material thrown into the metal molds by moving the plungers forward, a mechanism moves the plungers forward with a predetermined torque and then backward. The mechanism includes a drive motor, a main gear, planetary bevel gears, a first driven wheel member, a second driven wheel member, a first drive pinion, a second drive pinion, a first main drive member, and a second main drive member.

Abstract: An apparatus for reading information includes an original picture forming arrangement for converting a picture element signal of an object to a digital signal, and a word map forming arrangement for dividing the original image into rectangular sections that define a pattern contained in the original picture image for forming a word map, units of the word map being correlated with corresponding ones of the rectangular sections and coded to form a bit map. A first calculating arrangement is provided for distinguishing the pattern contained in the original picture image from the background, for determining an estimated inclination angle of the pattern contained in the original picture image.

Abstract: Apparatus for applying lubricant onto a molding die in a glass bottle making machine, including a spraying nozzle for spraying a mist of lubricant mixed with air onto an inner surface of the molding die, located on a guide rail above an array of a plurality of molding dies, and a cylinder which is connected to the spraying nozzle to reciprocally move the spraying nozzle between a spraying position directly above the molding die and an inoperative position apart from the spraying position.

Abstract: An apparatus for carrying bottles, having a pusher for moving the bottles and a servomotor for reciprocally rotating the pusher within a predetermined angular displacement, comprising means for emitting start and stop signals of the servomotor, servo-control means for supplying a drive current to the servomotor so as to control the angular velocity of the servomotor, and for stopping the supply of the drive current to the servomotor when the servomotor is subject to an excess load above a predetermined value. The servomotor is an AC servomotor driven by the servo-control means.

Abstract: A gob distributing apparatus having a gob feeder, a scoop for selectively connecting the feeder to desired immovable chutes of a bottle making machine, and an actuator of the scoop. The scoop has rollers which are provided on the scoop and a rotatable spiral cam which is engaged by the rollers, so that the rotation of the cam causes the scoop to rotate in order to selectively connect the chutes and the feeder.
