  • Patent number: 10396631
Abstract: A split-flow coolant system is provided. The split-flow coolant system may include a single inlet and multiple coolant distribution channels arranged inside a housing, or cooling plate, of the inverter. The coolant distribution channels may include a coolant chamber connected to the inlet and a coolant path running adjacent to various portions of the inverter. The coolant chamber splits into two separate coolant paths in the inverter housing, or cooling plate, that are then diverted to each of the motors. A first coolant path is diverted to the first motor where the coolant path is arranged to cool the first motor and a second coolant path is diverted to the second motor to cool the second motor. The separate coolant paths may connect to a common outlet at the end of the cooling path for the motors.

  • Patent number: 10383253
Abstract: An electronics thermal conduction package is provided. The package may include a housing and an interior space, or envelope, configured to receive a printed circuit board assembly (“PCBA”) with one or more microprocessors or other heat generating elements. The package can be elastically deformed to open a dimension of the envelope, or receiving cavity, such that a complete PCBA can be inserted inside the interior space of the package. Once inserted, the package may be returned to its undeformed, or substantially undeformed, state such that surfaces in the interior space of the package contact one or more of the heat generating elements on the PCBA creating a conductive thermal path from the heat generating elements to the housing of the package.

  • Patent number: 10347887
Abstract: Described herein is a battery module where the battery module footprint is generally defined by the size and number of battery cells. This is implemented by first optimizing the battery cell structure and stacking orientation for a given battery module footprint. A predetermined number of battery cells are then removed and replaced with components needed to implement a variety of auxiliary functions. For example, the components can be electrical connectors, cooling channels, heating channels and mounting channels for placement of mounting pins. In an implementation, the positions of the removed battery cells can also be mounting points. The predetermined number of battery cells can be a function of the amount of electrical energy needed to be stored by the battery module. The positions of the removed battery cells can be anywhere in the battery module, including the edge or interior positions.

  • Patent number: 10300808
Abstract: Systems of an autonomous vehicle and the operations thereof are provided. During travel of an autonomous vehicle, the autonomous vehicle, the autonomous vehicle can determine a charge is needed. Within the planned path of travel, the autonomous vehicle can determine when the autonomous vehicle may arrive at a charging station, what destinations are planned after reaching the charging station, the current temperature of the battery (and the temperature of the surroundings), the weather conditions at the charging station, etc. Based on these determinations and/or calculations, the autonomous vehicle can precondition the battery before the autonomous vehicle arrives at the charging station, for example, the autonomous vehicle starts cooling the battery at a quicker than normal rate so that the autonomous vehicle arrives at the charging station with the battery at the coldest possible temperature.
