    Abstract: In a steering device having an expansion and contraction-durable, flexible inner wire of a control cable, one end of which is fastened to an outer peripheral surface of a disc drive member rotatably mounted in a casing, the inner wire is fitted into an annular groove provided in the periphery of the drive member, and in a gap between the periphery of the drive member and the inner surface of the casing there is placed a series of bearings located or pivoted by a prescribed length of a flexible separator and having an engaging means capable of engaging with the inner wire or the drive member only in the direction of winding the inner wire. As a result of this construction, the steering device can be lightly operated regardless of the direction of rotation of a steering wheel.

    Abstract: A steering unit comprised of a housing which has a disc rotatably mounted therein. The disc has a grooved outer peripheral surface and has a push-pull control cable attached thereto. The push-pull control cable is attached to the disc via an inner cable. The improvement comprises a concave portion formed in the outer peripheral surface of the disc. This concave portion extends into the outer peripheral surface of the disc to a greater degree than the groove which is in the peripheral surface of the disc. The inner cable is attached to the disc at the low point of this concave indentation in the periphery of the disc. The inner cable and the concave portion of the disc are connected by means of an end fitting extending between the end of the cable and the concave portion. The end fitting is generally inclined from the groove in the disc into the concave portion whereat a head portion secures the head fitting to the concave portion of the disc.

    Abstract: In a two-lever control unit including a shaft mounted on the main body of the unit, a clutch operating plate and a throttle operating plate both rotatably supported by the shaft, a clutch lever for moving the clutch operating plate and a throttle lever for moving the throttle operating plate, a locking pin extends through a bore in the main body and has one end engageable in three locking cavities formed in the clutch operating plate and the other end engageable in a locking cavity formed in the throttle operating plate. One of the operating plates, when turned, causes the locking pin to lock the other operating plate. Thus, the clutch lever, when operated, locks the throttle lever, whereas when the throttle lever is operated, the clutch lever is locked. This simple structure gives the control unit greatly improved safety.

The caved portion or cavity can sufficiently prevent the noise which is produced upon engagement of the rotating core member against the interior face of the liner member, from being propagated outside through the outer member, and thereby can provide a flexible drive cable which exhibits a minimum amount of noise upon operation.
