  • Patent number: 6145847
Abstract: The invention relates to a metal laminate gasket for use in an internal combustion engine, such as a cylinder head gasket. The gasket includes at least two metal plates, each having at least one hole to be sealed and a plurality of bolt holes. In one embodiment, the first metal plate includes an annular bead portion surrounding the at least one hole. The second metal plate is arranged to cover the recess of the bead portion of the first metal plate. A rigid synthetic resin layer fills a part of the recess of the bead portion of the first metal plate. The rigid synthetic resin layer serves to increase the thickness of the lamination of the gasket to enhance the sealing effect and serves to limit the degree of compression of the bead portion when the gasket is compressed. The rigid synthetic resin layer is covered with the first metal plate and the second metal plate, and thus does not come into direct contact with the joint surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5932645
Abstract: A coating composition for screen printing containing a fluorine rubber in a dissolved state is disclosed, wherein the solvent for the fluorine rubber comprises 60 to 100% by weight, based on the total solvent, of an ester ranging in boiling point from isoamyl acetate to isobornyl acetate. The coating composition which, even when formulated as a thick solution for providing a thick coat as used in the production of a metal gasket, hardly clogs the screen thereby making continuous coating possible.

  • Patent number: 5849054
Abstract: The filter for an inflator of the present invention includes a cylindrical compressed mesh unit, which is multi-folded in its substantially entire length, and the multi-folded mesh unit is provided by folding a cylindrical wire mesh knitted from a single metal wire by a predetermined length from its one or both end portions in the longitudinal direction, so as to be overlaid on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical wire mesh, and such a folded overlaying is repeated a plurality of times. Then, the cylindrical mesh unit thus constituted is compressed in its longitudinal direction. The above-mentioned compressed cylindrical mesh unit should have a cavity ratio of 70 to 80% in terms of cavity ratio C defined by the equation indicated below:C=(.rho.o-.rho.)/.rho.o.times.100(%).

  • Patent number: 5208972
Abstract: Apparatus for assembling a grommet and a wire ring for forming a peripheral reinforcement of an engine head gasket opening. Grommets and wire rings are supplied one by one on different supply devices and retained at first and second article retaining positions, respectively. A movable head moves toward the second retaining position and picks up a wire ring. The head then conveys the wire ring to the second retaining position, where the wire ring is placed overlappingly on the grommet. Thereafter, another movable head having a deforming die is moved against the overlapped grommet and wire ring and deforms a flange of the grommet radially outwardly, whereby the grommet prevents separation of the wire ring therefrom. The thus assembled grommet and wire ring are conveyed to a machine for attaching them to the gasket.

  • Patent number: 4802698
Abstract: A joint has a first flange rigidly secured to the outer peripheral surface of an end portion of a first pipe and a second flange rigidly secured to the outer peripheral surface of an end portion of a second pipe. The first and second flanges are aligned with each other and joined together by nuts and bolts so that the first and second pipes are connected together and maintained in a hermetically sealed state by a closed loop-shaped sealing member clamped between the first and second flanges. The sealing member is fitted on the end portion of the second pipe which slightly projects from the second flange. The sealing member is formed by wrapping a thin metal sheet around heat resistant material and has an inner diameter which is equal to or slightly larger than the outer diameter of the second pipe. A frusto-conical surface aligned with the sealing member defines a portion of the inner peripheral surface of the first flange.
