  • Patent number: 5060474
Abstract: In an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine, a secondary air is selectively introduced into an exhaust passage at a first position upstream of a catalytic converter. A failure detection system utilizes a plurality of temperatures of an exhaust gas for detecting a failure of the exhaust emission control system. A first temperature is derived at a second position between the first position and the catalytic converter when the secondary air is introduced into the exhaust passage at the first position. A second temperature is derived at the second position when no secondary air is introduced into the exhaust passage at the first position. By comparing the first and second temperature, it is detected whether the exhaust emission control system includes a failure. Third and fourth temperatures may also be derived at a third position located inside or downstream of the catalytic converter, which respectively correspond to the first and second temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5062007
Abstract: A digital signal magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus converts a digital signal into a multi-value digital signal, followed by recording/reproducing the quadrature biphase modulated multi-value quadrature amplitude modulated signal. By using a multi-value quadrature amplitude modulation, a direct current component in the recorded signal can be eliminated, and the utilization efficiency of the recording frequency band of the digital signal magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus can be improved. Also, with respect to the amplitude non-linear characteristic which occurs in the magnetic recording/reproducing process, by providing a compensating circuit during the mapping before recording or after reproducing and demodulating, the deterioration of the S/N ratio of the reproduced and demodulated signal can be reduced to decrease the errors in the decoded data.

  • Patent number: 5059957
Abstract: A CRT display system for a vehicle is provided, the system comprises a CRT for displaying images, vehicle information, or so forth, a liquid crystal panel assembly disposed in front of the CRT, a vehicle information sensor, and control means for the liquid crystal panel. The vehicle information sensor is adapted for determining whether the vehicle is running or not and whether an ambient light level is high or low to provide signals indicative thereof. The control means is operable to control the transmission factor of the liquid crystal panel so as to limit a visual angle for the driver in response to the signals output from the vehicle information sensor. When the ambient light level is low and the vehicle is running, the control means controls the liquid crystal panel assembly so as to reduce the transmission factor thereof to a first level with the result that no images from the CRT are projected to the driver through the panel assembly although passengers may clearly see the images.
