Patent number: 4120439Abstract: A method of bonding powdered material to a surface comprising placing at least one layer of powdered material onto a support of ductile material, positioning a surface to be coated by the powdered material in facing spaced relation with the powdered material and placing an explosive charge on the support on the surface thereof opposite the powdered material. The explosive charge is then detonated to produce acceleration of the support and the powdered material thereon towards the surface to be coated to cause impact of the powdered material with the surface to be coated and welding thereof. The detonation of the explosive charge proceeds along the length of the charge to progressively bring the powdered material into impact contact with the surface to be coated. The speed of detonation of the explosive charge is less than the speed of sound in the powdered material or support.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1977Date of Patent: October 17, 1978Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventor: Per Ingemar Persson

Patent number: 4095734Abstract: A metal wall, such as that of a vessel, is provided with cladding which is welded to the metal wall such that an elongated space is formed between the weld seams. The elongated space allows for the testing of the weld seams for leakproofness by closing off one end of the space and injecting a gaseous medium, or the like, into the space and gauging whether or not the medium exits via the weld seams. A plate made of rubber, plastic or the like may also be used in welding the cladding to the metal wall, which plate covers the unconnected ends of the two cladding parts making up the cladding layer for the metal wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1976Date of Patent: June 20, 1978Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventor: Per Ingemar Persson

Patent number: 4089702Abstract: Particles adhering to the internal surfaces of an object are removed by conveying an explosive gas or gas mixture to the chamber defined by the surfaces, and detonating the gas or mixture. The detonation loosens the adhering particles, which are then removed from the chamber. The invention has particular application to the removal of particles from the internal surfaces of a body having a plurality of outlets communicating with the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1977Date of Patent: May 16, 1978Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventors: Bertil Petrus Enoksson, Lars Uno Lennart Eriksson

Patent number: 4051988Abstract: The apparatus includes two clamping devices mounted for vertical reciprocation one above the other, and having registering central apertures through which a flexible tube is adapted to be advanced. Each clamp contains a flexible sleeve disposed to surround the tube and selectively to be pressed into gripping engagement with it by means of a fluid pressure medium. This medium is also used to reciprocate the clamps alternately toward and away from each other, with only one clamp at a time being actuated so that the tube is advanced (e.g. fed upwardly) first by one and the other of the clamps.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1976Date of Patent: October 4, 1977Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventors: Bengt Gunnar Wilhelm Egerstrom, Bror Lennart Teodor Sternhoff

Patent number: 4041867Abstract: A tubular fuse, which is supplied with an explosive gas, is formed so that as the explosive gas is detonated a turbulence will be created to aid in the propogation and continuance of the detonation. To achieve this turbulence, the inner circumferential surface of the tubular fuse is roughened at least along a portion of the length of the fuse. Alternatively, turbulence may be created by coating the inner circumferential surface of the fuse with a fine-grained powder.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1976Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventor: Bertil Petrus Enoksson

Patent number: 4040329Abstract: A detonator is positioned in the bore of, or adjacent to, a roll or coil of detonating cord, one end of which is attached to the detonator, which in turn is aligned with a shothole and with a flexible, tubular inserting device, which advances over one end of the detonator and forces it into the shothole, during which operation the cord unwinds and is drawn into the shothole at the outside of the tubular inserter. In one embodiment cylindrically-shaped coils of cord containing the detonators are fed, as needed, through a supply tube to a receptacle positioned in front of the shothole and in front of the forward end of the inserter. In another embodiment both primer caps and detonators, with cord attached, are rotatably indexible into registry with the inserting tube and a shothole.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1976Date of Patent: August 9, 1977Assignee: Nitro Nobel ABInventor: Sten Herman Ljungberg

Patent number: 4014655Abstract: An explosive is produced in a continuous process made up of three stages. The first stage is mixing the solid ingredients of the explosive and transporting it to a mixing station. The second stage is emulsifying nitroglycerine and transporting it to the mixing station where the nitroglycerine is separated from the water and combined with other liquid ingredients. The third stage is the mixing stage where the solid and liquid ingredients are mixed or kneaded and formed into suitably-sized explosive units. The mixing station is provided with a mixer having a pair of hoppers in which are deposited the liquid ingredients and the solid ingredients, and which empty into a housing having a pair of rotating mixing screws which mix the liquid and solid ingredients. The liquid ingredients never contact the bearings of the mixing screws. The ratio of liquid to solid ingredients of the explosive may be varied by varying the feeding rate of each.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1975Date of Patent: March 29, 1977Assignee: Nitro Nobel A.B.Inventor: Bernt Brunnberg
