  • Patent number: 8776690
Abstract: The invention relates to a combustible sleeve for accommodating propellant charge powder, to munitions designed using such a sleeve, and to a production method for such sleeves. The sleeve according to the invention is designed for accommodating propellant charge powder and has a jacket wall made of combustible felted fibrous material and an inlay of intersecting threads in the jacket wall. The threads are disposed therein at a distance from one another such that felted fibrous material reaches through the regions between the threads. The method comprises the following steps: preparing a jacket wall made of combustible felted fibrous material and inserting an inlay made of intersecting threads into the jacket wall. The threads are disposed therein at a distance from one another such that the felted fibrous material extends through the regions between the threads.

  • Publication number: 20060266451
Abstract: The proposed propellant powder exhibits a temperature-independent burning behavior and high ballistic stability. The production process starts with a perforated bulk powder grain, which is processed inside a mixing apparatus with a solid material, a plug-stabilizing moderator or deterrent (if necessary also a radical initiator) and a low-viscous liquid. With a minimum amount of solid material, moderator or deterrent and liquid and because of the continuous mixing, the form function is influenced in such a way that the gas-formation rate is practically independent of the propellant powder temperature. As a result, the muzzle energy at the normal temperature and, above all, at a low deployment temperature can be increased markedly as compared to that of a standard propellant powder.

  • Patent number: 6910422
Abstract: A method for producing a combustible cartridge case for cartridge ammunition, wherein an aqueous pulp containing nitrocellulose and cellulose fibers is produced, a raw felt is produced from the pulp through draining the fiber material on a sieve, and the raw felt is then compressed and shaped. To produce combustible cartridge cases possessing a greater mechanical stability than known cartridge cases of comparable dimensions, additives are mixed into the aqueous pulp prior to the production of the raw felt, to increase the stability of the fiber composite after the compressing process, so the breaking strength and the breaking elongation, and the resistance to tear propagation are increased. The additive is preferably a polymer material having a hydrophilic character and a high content of OH, NH2 and/or similar functional groups, and is capable of forming chemical bonds and/or engaging in intermolecular interaction with the cellulose or nitrocellulose molecules.

  • Patent number: 6354218
Abstract: A propellant system for launching a large-caliber projectile includes a propellant having at least three partial charges. The first partial charge is adapted to acceleration requirements of the projectile; the second partial charge has a higher combustion velocity than that of the first partial charge; and the third partial charge has a lower combustion velocity than that of the first partial charge. The propellant system further includes an electric energy supply and control device connected to the propellant for igniting the propellant. The electric energy supply and control device has a plasma generator for affecting a combustion behavior of the propellant such as to obtain for said first partial charge, after ignition of the propellant, a maximum gas pressure level of always the same magnitude independently from an initial propellant temperature, and to obtain, for the third partial charge, a conversion such as to prolong the maximum gas pressure level in a predeterminable manner.
