  • Patent number: 6684486
Abstract: By a method for constructing a superconducting multiphase cable comprising N phases, the phases are divided into n groups with N phases in each group, all the groups have a common screen. The individual groups may be geomtrically formed with coaxial or flat phases. The individual phases in each group may further be divided into individual conductors such as tapes. The insulation between the individual conductors in the groups may be separately insulated from each other or have a common insulation. In a particularly appropriate embodiment, the number of groups is 1 and implemented with a flat or concentric geometry. In this way, a compact superconducting power cable is provided, which is relatively inexpensive in production and has few working operations while maintaining good electrical properties.

  • Publication number: 20030235694
Abstract: A method for the excitation of a plasma in which a gas is subjected to an electric field by means of a plurality of electrode systems. According to the invention at least two separate electrode systems 1,2 are used which are power supplied from separate generators with the same frequency, the voltage variations of the generators being shifted in phase relative to each other such that a voltage zero never occurs at the same time in two of the electrode systems, a kind of rest period also occurring, in which there is no significant potential difference between the phases. As a result a pulsating plasma is obtained, as the plasma is generated by the potential difference between the phases. When there is no significant potential difference between the phases, an added substance may interact with its own functionality.

  • Patent number: 6274050
Abstract: A method for treatment of halogen-containing waste material, in particular PVC-containing waste material, is disclosed. The waste material is heated in a decomposition step in a reaction zone in a substantially closed system essentially without addition of water to a temperature between 150 and 750° C., preferably 250-350° C., in the presence of a halogen-reactive compound selected from alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkali and alkaline earth metal carbonates and mixtures thereof, so as to establish a controllable autogenous pressure substantially above atmospheric pressure, in a sufficient reaction time to convert essentially all halogen present in the waste material to alkali or alkaline earth metal halides. The closed system preferably also has a condensation zone, where water vapor and volatile compounds liberated from the waste material are condensed.

  • Patent number: 6182351
Abstract: The inventive method for producing a superconductor is accomplished by longitudinally pulling a metal pipe having a cavity filled with a metal oxide mixture in polycrystalline powder to reduce the outer diameter of the pipe, sintering the metal oxide mixture to form a workpiece, and progressively flattening the workpiece in a succession of pressings. The flattening step is conducted with a pair of coordinately operated clamping jaws, each of which having a work surface which is curvilinear with distinct opposite ends. The clamping jaws are mounted to hinged brackets connected by eccentric arms to rotatable shafts arranged for providing power transmission to the clamping jaws such that, during each of the pressings, each eccentric arm extends at an angle to a respective hinged bracket which is approximately 0° or approximately 180° when power transmission to the workpiece is maximal.

  • Patent number: 6126776
Abstract: A method of modifying the surface of a solid polymer substrate comprising the steps of a) generating radicals on the substrate surface by subjecting it to a gas plasma or by subjecting it to UV light, and b) treating the surface with a vapor of a monomer or a monomer mixture comprising cyano acrylate and/or isocyanate, where step b) starts before step a), simultaneously with step a), under step a), or follows immediately after step a), and a polymer substrate modified accordingly; a method of binding an organic binder material to a surface of a solid polymer substrate comprising the steps of modifying the surface of the substrate by said method, and bringing the organic material in contact with the surface of the substrate, and a polymer bonded to an organic material by the last mentioned method.

  • Patent number: 5708123
Abstract: Stable, electroactive material which when a potential is applied from the outside is subjected to one or more reversible redox reactions, for use in devices with an electrochromic display or another electrochromic color change or in batteries. The material comprises a condensed ring structure, the oxidized form of which is of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2, X, and A may have any meaning with the proviso that the condensed ring structure maintains the reversible properties. The material can be prepared by various processes and it is suited for use as electrochromic material for use in devices with an electrochromic display or as coating on windows because it presents a distinct and easily visible color change when it is subjected to a potential. In addition, the material is suited for use in rechargeable batteries because is possesses an excellent capacity and reversibility.
