Patent number: 8721335Abstract: A dental implant for supporting a dental prosthesis comprises a body portion and a top surface. The implant further comprises an internal cavity with an opening located at the top surface. The internal cavity comprises an interlock chamber having a depth measured from the top surface equal to a first distance. The interlock chamber comprising a cylindrical portion and plurality of semi-circular channels arranged around a periphery of the cylindrical portion. A threaded chamber that includes threads is located below the post-receiving chamber. The cylindrical portion has a first radius and the channels have a second radius, a ratio of the first radius to the second radius being between approximately 4:1. and 2:1.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2010Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Nobel Biocare USA, Inc.Inventor: Steven M. Hurson

Patent number: 8608473Abstract: An immediate provisional implant is provided, and method of use therefor, that serves to protect permanent dental implant anchors and overlying tissue during the healing and osseointegration process. Potentially damaging forces resulting from patient use of a temporary prosthesis during the osseointegration period are carried by the immediate provisional implant, rather than impinging upon non-osseointegrated permanent implant anchors or overlying tissue. The immediate provisional implants are self-threading and are inserted in osteotomies located near permanent dental implant anchors. The temporary prosthesis is removed after a period allowed for osseointegration of the permanent implant anchors, and the provisional implants can also be removed at the same time. The immediate provisional implants are non-linearly tapered from a maximum thread diameter near the bone surface to a more narrow distal end, providing immediate stability without the benefit of osseointegration.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2003Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Nobel Biocare USA, Inc.Inventor: Don Kennard

Patent number: 6394806Abstract: A healing cap is provided for covering of an implant installed in a patient's mouth. The healing cap comprises a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end is adapted to be inserted within a coronal opening formed in the implant. The healing cap further includes resilient fingers for engaging corresponding surfaces formed within the coronal opening of the implant. The distal end of the healing cap can include an indentation for receiving a snapping portion of a removal tool.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Nobel Biocare USA, IncInventor: Ajay Kumar

Patent number: 6382977Abstract: An impression coping is provided for taking an impression of an implant installed in a patient's mouth. The impression coping comprises a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end is adapted to be inserted within a coronal opening formed in the implant and has an anti-rotation formation cooperating with a corresponding anti-rotation formation formed in the implant for preventing relative rotation of the coping and implant. The coping further includes resilient fingers for engaging corresponding surfaces formed within the coronal opening of the implant. The distal end of the coping includes an impression portion adapted to be embedded in a dental impression material for taking a dental impression thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 7, 2002Assignee: Nobel Biocare USA, Inc.Inventor: Ajay Kumar

Patent number: 6315562Abstract: A carrier, for a dental implant kit, for reliably and releasably holding the dental implant. The carrier incorporates a plurality of flexible fingers for engaging a screw of the dental implant kit in which the screw is threadably engaged with the implant. The fingers latch on to the screw by providing a mechanical lock in a groove of the screw. The fingers can further grip the screw by applying a generally radial compressive force on the screw. Advantageously, the resiliency and structure of the carrier fingers not only provides a reliable long-term grip on the screw, and hence the implant, but also permit the screw, and hence the implant, to be conveniently attached and detached from the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1999Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Nobel Biocare USA, Inc.Inventor: Ajay Kumar
