  • Patent number: 6597352
Abstract: A method and a device for filtered sync signals detection wherein a timing circuit is used to select the steep slope portion in one or both of the leading edge and the trailing edge of the sync signals; a voltage divider or feedback path to set a triggering point at the steep slope portion of the selected edge regardless the slope being positive or negative; and a triggerable device is used to generate new sync signals with the leading edge of each sync pulse starts at one triggering point and the trailing edge starts at another triggering point. Alternatively, a micro-controller is used to detect the polarity of the sync signals and accordingly provide a reference voltage in order to set the triggering point at the leading edge of the sync signals.

  • Patent number: 6597914
Abstract: There are proposed a method for determining timing differences between a plurality of radio transmitters (BTS) and a radio network incorporating the method. Timing information of signals received by measuring means from said plurality of radio transmitters (BTS) is determined. The timing differences between said plurality of radio transmitters (BTS) are determined on the basis of said timing information determined by said measuring means and the respective distance differences between said plurality of radio transmitters (BTS) and said measuring means. This method can be advantageously applied to locating mobile stations in a mobile radio network.

  • Publication number: 20030132814
Abstract: An attenuator for radio frequency applications includes variable shunt elements and series transmission elements. The impedances of the variable shunt elements and the series transmission elements are selected so that the impedance of the attenuator at the input terminal remains at a nominal value for all attenuation levels, thereby producing low loss at high frequencies. The use of the attenuator as a switch yields a non-reflective switch at radio frequencies.

  • Patent number: 6594356
Abstract: Services controlling the same call state model are independent of each other and do not necessarily have any knowledge of each other. To make the facilities of these parallel controlling services interoperable, at least one parameter is defined, whose value indicates whether a controlling service may be initiated to control a control record, if a controlling service has already been initiated. When detecting (301) a situation triggering the initiation of a second controlling service in the control record controlling call set-up, the initiation of the second controlling service is continued (315), if the parameter allows the initiation of the controlling service.

  • Patent number: 6594791
Abstract: A method of signaling which data blocks can be combined together in an incremental redundancy communication system includes a transmitter device and a receiver device. The method includes transmitting the blocks from a transmitter device to a receiver device. Each transmitted data block includes an information indicating whether a respective data block is transmitted for a first time or is a retransmitted block. At the receiver device, a check is made to see whether the transmission of a respective data block has failed. If the transmission of said respective block has failed, retransmission is made. In response to receiving the retransmission request at the transmitter device side, the information is set to a value indicating that the respective data block is a retransmitted block. A header is added to the data block to be retransmitted, the header representing a reference to a physical location of an earlier transmission of said block in a sequence of transmitted blocks.

  • Patent number: 6593808
Abstract: A method of setting up a linearizing circuit such as a linear power amplifier is described. According to the method, an input signal is supplied at a low, starting power level and is lowly increased during a set-up until it attains an operational level for normal use. The advantage of this is that pilot tone used in the linearizing circuit can be readily detected during set-up because its amplitude is above that of the low, starting power level of the input signal. A feed-forward linearizing system and a transmission system utilizing the technique are described.

  • Patent number: 6594248
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method used in a CDMA-type radio system. A base station and terminal equipments exchange data at least in a packet switched mode, and a terminal equipment transmits to the base station on a random access channel a random access signal comprising at least a preamble (100) and a data part (102) multiplied by a spreading code. A predetermined set of spreading codes and signature sequences (104) are stored in the terminal equipment, and each signature sequence (104) determines one spreading code. The terminal equipment selects one signature sequence (104) by a random process from the set of signature sequences and adds the selected signature sequence (104) to the preamble (100) of the random access signal. Further, the terminal equipment uses the spreading code corresponding to the selected signature sequence (104) in the data part (102) of the random access signal.

  • Patent number: 6594486
Abstract: The invention relates to radio systems and particularly to non-transparent data transmission in a mobile communication system where a mobile services switching center and a radio access network belong to different system generations. A second-generation mobile services switching center is also provided with a protocol unit supporting a radio link protocol of a third-generation radio access network. In such a case the radio link protocol is set up between the mobile station and the mobile services switching center without a radio link protocol conversion in an interworking unit of the radio access network. The radio access network merely transmits the radio link protocol transparently between the mobile station and the mobile services switching center, i.e. it extends the protocol to the mobile services switching center.

  • Patent number: 6594508
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an antenna condition signal and a feeder cable condition signal in a base station having an antenna coupled to a cabinet by an antenna feeder cable. Two directional couplers are configured to detect forward and reflected signals to and from the antenna. Power detectors are coupled to the RF couplers, and are configured to provide forward and reflected power signals. A first differential amplifier provides a detector tuning signal proportional to the difference between the forward and reflected power signals. A second differential amplifier provides a detector tuning signal proportional to the difference between the forward and a reference voltage. Each differential amplifier tunes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The output of the VCOs is coupled to the feeder cable. A phase locked loop at the cabinet is coupled to the feeder cable and provides a recovery tuning signal which tracks the tuning signals to the differential amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 6594495
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for load control and a radio system. In the invention a load result describing the load is cell-specifically formed. The load result is formed either by comparing a signal strength of desired signals and a combined total strength of interferences and the desired signals or by weighting a signal-to-interference ratio with a bandwidth or a data transmission rate. The load result is compared with a threshold value of the highest load level allowed of a cell. The data transmission rate in the cell is increased if the load result is smaller than the threshold value. The data transmission rate in the cell is reduced and the establishment of new connections is avoided if the load result exceeds the threshold value. In heavy load situations a signal-to-interference objective is also changed in order to balance the load result.

  • Patent number: 6594276
Abstract: Apparatus, and associated method, converts real-time multimedia information generated pursuant to an RTP protocol into a form amenable for transmission upon a radio channel, such as a radio channel defined in a cellular communication system. When converted, the informational content of the multimedia information is transmitted in a manner that achieves spectral efficiency and low, constant delay. Once transmitted over the radio channel, the multimedia information is converted back into form corresponding to the RTP protocol before being sent to the receiving station.
