  • Patent number: 5773761
Abstract: A method of producing an electric cable and an electric cable. In the electric cable, a short-circuiting layer is provided between an insulated conductor/insulated conductors (4a) and a protective covering (7) surrounding the conductor/s, the short-circuiting layer being formed by short-circuiting wires (3) extending substantially parallel with the conductor/s, and a contact member (6) positioned substantially transversely to the short-circuiting wires and connecting the wires electrically. To speed up the production process, the contact member (6) is formed of a bundle of wires.

  • Patent number: 5319730
Abstract: A cable construction comprising at least one package (3) of fibre ribbons, which package consists of at least one fibre ribbon (4) comprising several parallel optical fibres (5) and a covering (6) joining them together, and at least one reinforcing member (7a) extending in the longitudinal direction of the cable. The package (3) of fibre ribbons is arranged in a cavity (2) with an elongated cross-section in the vertical direction such that the natural bending plane (A) of the fibre ribbon package (3) is substantially perpendicular with respect to the longitudinal plane (B) of the cavity. The reinforcing member (7a) is arranged in the cable construction in such a way that the bending plane (D) of the whole cable defined thereby also is substantially perpendicular with respect to the longitudinal plane (B) of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5191633
Abstract: This invention relates to a connector to be used in the production of optical fibre preforms for connecting a process steam and gas supply pipe (1) rotatably to a silica tube (2) to be formed into a preform. To provide a structurally simple, rotating connection, the connector of the invention comprises a generally cylindrical body part (3) provided with a through-going bore for the supply pipe (1), said bore comprising one or more annular expansions for a ring seal or ring seals (6, 7) sealing the supply pipe (1) with respect to the body part (3). One end of the body part (3) is expanded to form an abutment for a ring seal (5) sealing the body part (3) against the inside of the silica tube (2), the connector further comprising a tightening means (8, 10) for pressing the ring seal (5) sealing the body part with respect to the silica tube (2) against its abutment to expand the seal radially.
