  • Patent number: 5820046
Abstract: An arrangement in connection with a spooler which is arranged to wind a reel arranged in the spooler when a fibrous or a ribbon-like material is wound off the reel for a treatment process of the fibre or the ribbon or when a fibrous or a ribbon-like material is wound on the reel, for preventing tangling. The arrangement includes a gripping and cutting mechanism that rotates along with the reel and is arranged to catch and cut the fibre or the ribbon that has broken during the process, at the side of the reel, thus preventing uncoiling and tangling of the reel during un-winding, or the whipping movement of the end of the fibre or the ribbon during winding.

  • Patent number: 5470192
Abstract: An arrangement for handling cylindrical bodies provided with central holes, the apparatus comprising gripping arms provided with gripping pins, second means arranged to move the gripping arms to obtain a forward movement, third means arranged to wind the gripping arms clockwise and counterclockwise, and fourth means arranged to move the gripping arms towards each other such that the gripping pins are self-centeringly brought into alignment with the central holes of the cylindrical body and to make a reverse movement of release.

  • Patent number: 5355669
Abstract: A method and an arrangement in connection with reverse stranding, comprising drawing conductors through a stationary divider, peripheral tubes peripherically surrounding a central tube and twistable around the central tube recurrently in opposite directions and a twisting device rotatable in opposite directions, into a stranding nozzle or similar. To achieve longitudinal strip winding, a strip is fed into the central tube. The strip is guided to pass through the rotatable twisting device and further between the desired conductors ahead of the stranding nozzle or similar, the stranding nozzle or similar bending the edges of the strip in the desired direction.

  • Patent number: 5320295
Abstract: A carriage for displacing a cylindrical body into a winding machine, comprising two support elements (9) defining therebetween a space for receiving the body (2) and being adjustable with respect to each other in a transverse direction of the elements; fixed support plates (10) attached to the support elements for supporting the body; and a machinery for lifting and lowering the support plates. To measure the size of the body and to be able to adjust the winding machine in advance, the carriage comprises sensors (15, 18) for measuring the width and diameter of the body while the body is supported by the support plates; and a transmitter (24) for transmitting the measuring results to the winding machine.

  • Patent number: 5307617
Abstract: A reverse stranding apparatus for the reverse stranding of conductors. The apparatus comprises a stationary divider plate, a twisting plate rotatable in different directions, and a central element disposed between the parts, and peripheral tubes surrounding the central element, the central element and the peripheral tubes being pressed against each other at least during the twisting step of the conductors, and the conductors to be stranded being adapted to pass through at least the peripheral tubes. To allow high speeds of rotation, the peripheral tubes are connected substantially for their entire length to the central element by a substantially radial part.

  • Patent number: 5277019
Abstract: A reverse stranding apparatus for the reverse stranding of conductors. The apparatus comprises a stationary divider element, a twisting element rotatable in different directions, and a central element disposed between said parts, and peripheral tubes surrounding said central element, the central element and the peripheral tubes being pressed against each other at least during the twisting step of the conductors and the conductors to be stranded being adapted to pass through at least the peripheral tubes. To attain high speeds of rotation, the peripheral tubes and the central element are united in a tube packet by a reticular fabric enveloping the peripheral tubes and extending substantially over the entire length of said peripheral tubes.

  • Patent number: 5226271
Abstract: A reverse stranding apparatus for the reverse stranding of conductors to produce cables or the like and to a method in connection with stranding and reverse stranding. The conductors are drawn from a distributor into a nozzle or equivalent through peripheral tubes circumferentially surrounding a central tube and being twistable about the central tube recurrently in opposite directions. To facilitate the passage of the conductor, a pressurized fluid is fed through the peripheral tubes upstream ends and into the peripheral tubes during the drawing of the conductors to produce oscillation, whereby the conductors passing through each peripheral tube remain substantially detached from the inner surfaces of the peripheral tubes.

  • Patent number: 5102584
Abstract: A method of producing an optical multi-fibre cable element provided with a secondary sheathing by extruding (1) a loose secondary sheathing (10) around a fibre bundle (9) and providing the fibres with a desired extra length with respect to the secondary sheathing. To avoid variation in fibre length in the production of cable elements the secondary sheathing (10) together with the fibre bundle (9) is twisted (12) around its axis after the extrusion step (1) at least to such an extent that the longitudinal sliding of the fibres with respect to each other is prevented in the twisted fibre bundle and that the stretching of the fibres in the fibre bundle at the step of providing the extra length (3; 18) is kept within the elastic range of the fibres.

  • Patent number: 5092117
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an optical multi-fiber cable element provided with a second sheathing by extruding a loose secondary sheathing around a fiber bundle and stretching the fibers a desired extra length with respect to the sheathing, the fibers being guided in such a manner that the position of the fibers varies continuously during stretching. To produce an untwisted cable element and avoid variation in the fiber length, the secondary sheathing together with its fiber bundle is twisted around its axis after the extrusion or the sheathing to vary the twisting position of the fiber bundle as the sheathing and fibers approach the stretching step.

  • Patent number: 5052877
Abstract: A carriage for the transportation of a cable reel, comprising two parallel support elements (2, 3) which form a space between them for a reel (6) and are displaceable with respect to each other in the transverse direction (B) of the support elements, and reel supports (10) mounted on the support elements for the reel. In order to transport the reels with their central axes (A) transversely to the driving direction of the carriage so that the axes of the reels are positioned, irrespective of the size of the reels, at a constant distance from a fixed reference point (12) in the carriage, the support elements are provided with vertically displaceable carrier wheels (7) and with displacing wheels (9), the axes (C) of which extend in the longitudinal direction of the support elements. When the support elements are lowered, the displacing wheels contact the underlying surface (11) only after the reel has made contact with the surface and the reel supports have released the reel.
