  • Patent number: 6577611
Abstract: A portable radio telephone (5) communicates with base stations (1, 2) in a digital radio telephone system, such as DECT, employing TDMA transmission. The portable radio telephone is programmed with an algorithm which is operative to select a communication channel by storing a blind slot mask (7) representative of the time slots in each frame which are excluded, either by virtue of being occupied by the base station or by the portable radio telephone itself. Hence, any channel attempted and failed in an occupied time slot is excluded and marked blind in the blind slot mask. Further, the algorithm is operative to check the time slots for availability in a predetermined sequence which corresponds to the temporal sequence of the slots (or the reverse thereof) to promote orderly filling of the time slots at the base stations.

  • Patent number: 6577671
Abstract: A method is taught for assigning spreading codes to mobile stations located within a cell, as is a CDMA communications system that operates in accordance with the method. The method includes steps of (A) assigning a set of spreading codes for use in a particular cell; (B) determining values of entries in a spreading code performance table (fixed or dynamic) based on a weighted combination of cross-correlation factors between individual ones of the spreading codes of the set of spreading codes, and also based on an auto-correlation factor of individual ones of the spreading codes of the set of spreading codes, within a delay spread range that is typical for the particular cell; and (C) assigning a spreading code from the performance table by selecting a spreading code that will cause a least amount of interference with a sub-set of already assigned spreading codes.

  • Patent number: 6563927
Abstract: A back cover for a mobile phone is described. The cover comprises an elongate body having an outer surface exposed on attachment to the phone and inner surfaces comprising first and second guiding surfaces; and lockable restraining means arranged to co-operate with corresponding restraining means of the phone on the movement of the cover with respect to the phone along said guiding surfaces, thereby preventing substantial movement of the body with respect to the phone in said lengthwise direction. The lockable restraining means of the cover or the corresponding restraining means of the phone comprises a resilient, outwardly flexible part. This part resiliently flexes on said movement of the cover with respect to the phone along said guiding surfaces and forms a user releasable locking engagement between the cover and the phone. • Patent number: 6564043
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method and an arrangement for linearizing a radio receiver (20). The invention is advantageously applied in the reception circuits of mobile stations. A receiver according to the invention monitors the signal strength on the receive channel and its neighboring channels. In addition, the receiver can determine the quality of the detected signal by calculating its bit error ratio or signal-to-noise ratio. In normal conditions, i.e. when the signal strength is satisfactory on the receive channel and normal on the neighboring channels, the supply currents of the front-end amplifiers (A1, A2) and at least the first mixer (M1) of the receiver are kept relatively small. If the signal strength on the receive channel goes below a predetermined value or, on a neighboring channel, exceeds a predetermined value, said supply currents are increased. This may happen also if the bit error ratio or signal-to-noise ratio reaches a predetermined limit.

  • Patent number: 6542489
Abstract: The transmission of a service page according to the present invention provides for versatile data to be displayed on a display of a terminal, which is in contact with a telecommunication network, on the basis of CLIP or CoLP identifier information. This is implemented, for example, so that after having received (31) the CLIP identifier information, characteristic of a subscriber A, a subscriber B contacts a server (32), through a telecommunication network, and transmits (33) to it the CLIP information on the subscriber A. On the basis of this, the server transmits to the subscriber B the address of a service page (37), characteristic of the subscriber A, provided that it is located in a database (34, 35). After this, the subscriber B retrieves (38), from an Internet address (37) it has received, the service page, characteristic of the subscriber A, and displays it on its display (39).
