Abstract: Multicast routing in ad-hoc networks by exchange of multicast group update information and routing tree information among neighboring routers is disclosed. A router propagates multicast group update information based on the update information and the routing tree information. A router also determines whether to forward multicast data packets based on control information in the multicast data packets and the routing tree information.

Abstract: A method and computer program to manage the load on a packet switched network so that the quality of VoIP transmission does not degrade with the addition of a new VoIP calls. This method and computer program determines the carrying capacity of the communications lines based on the bandwidth and TRAU frames per packet. Further, this method and computer program may determine the state of the network based on round trips times to nodes or computer gateways on the network. In either case calls are admitted only when doing do would not cause the quality of all VoIP calls to degrade.
Abstract: A method and a wireless telecommunication system of performing network-assisted handover of calls between a serving network and another wireless network that employs communication protocols different from those of the serving network. A message is sent from a mobile station of a user to the serving wireless network, which includes an indication that the mobile station is capable of communicating with the neighboring wireless network. Information relating to the communication characteristics of the neighboring wireless network is also sent from the serving wireless network to the mobile station. Using the information relating to the communication characteristics of the neighboring wireless network, the mobile station receives radio signals from the neighboring wireless network. The quality of the radio signals between the mobile station and the neighboring wireless network is measured.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for compensating for variable delays in the communication of packet data to a receiving station during, for example, a VOIP (Voice-Over-Internet Protocol) communication session. Compensation is made for surges of data received at the receiving station subsequent to a congestion condition. A jitter buffer and a trimming buffer are both utilized to buffer data packets thereat. The data buffered at the trimming buffer is selectably trimmed in a manner to permit the informational content of the data received at the receiving station to be recovered without introducing significant delay times in the recovery of the informational content.
