Patent number: 6028861Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing packet synchronized switch-over is disclosed. The present invention eliminates packet loss by preventing frame integrity from being broken. Switch-over requests soliciting a change from a first virtual channel link to a second virtual channel link are received. After the receipt of a switch-over request, state information for identifying the occurrence of a frame completed state is monitored. The switch-over from the first virtual channel link to the second virtual channel link is performed when the frame completed state occurs. The frame completed state is detected by determining whether a current cell being received has an AUU set. The invention eliminates packet loss by maintaining layer frame integrity for both ingress and egress switch-over requests.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1997Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications, OyInventors: Timo Soirinsuo, Pasi Vaananen

Patent number: 6023453Abstract: A system and method for determining the minimum and/or maximum values from a number of sample parameter values utilizes a table of last occurrence (TOLO-table), together with a sliding window or filter, to greatly enhance the speed and efficiency when determining the minimum and/or maximum value from a number of sample parameter values that fall within the sliding window. The TOLO-table typically includes a parameter column for storing entries for each one of a limited number of discrete parameter values, and also includes a time stamp column which provides entries for storing time of receipt data associated with each parameter value defined in the parameter column. Alternatively, an order number column may be employed for storing number order entries corresponding to the order in which the parameter values are received. Every time a parameter value is received, the time stamp or order number entry associated with the parameter value is updated to the current time or order number.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications, OyInventors: Jussi Pekka Olavi Ruutu, Matti Kalevi Kilkki

Patent number: 6023618Abstract: The charging criteria for determining the price for a call between two subscribers in a cellular mobile telephone network, is improved. One cell, or a group consisting of several cells, is chosen as a group of special cells. Upon establishing a call, a mobile switching center of a calling subscriber analyzes whether the location cell of the calling subscriber and/or that of the called subscriber are members of a group of special cells. If this is the case, the charging criteria determined for the group will be applied. Additionally, private branch exchanges may also be connected to the mobile switching center.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventors: Risto Janhonen, Markku Tuohino, Erkki Ojala

Patent number: 6023740Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system by means of which a large number of peripheral modules (TRn) can request service from a controller, e.g. in form of an interrupt request. Congestion of service requests is prevented in advance by assigning a predetermined time slot to each peripheral module (TRn) during which it is allowed to ask for service from the controller. The time slots are coordinated by a time slot counter which is stepped with a clock signal (CLK). The time slot counters of the different peripheral modules are synchronized with a synchronization signal (SYNC). The peripheral modulees (TRn) may include subperipheral modules, whereby each subperipheral module can request service independently, or a gate N1 coupled to a register SR1 may be employed for detecting that a subperipheral module requires service.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventors: Jari Korhonen, Veikko Toukomies

Patent number: 6021385Abstract: A method for detecting defective speech frames in a receiver of a speech communication system includes a coded speech signal consisting of speech frames conveying speech coding parameters received through a transmission link. The detection method for defective speech frames depends on the quality of the transmission link. If the quality of the transmission link is "poor", unusual parameter values of a speech signal in a speech frame are interpreted as transmission errors, and the speech frame is classified as defective. During a transmission link of "good" quality, all received parameter values possible for speech are accepted and forwarded to a speech decoder. In the latter mode of operation, the detection of defective speech frames is solely based on conventional error detection methods employed in the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1997Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventors: Kari Jarvinen, Janne Vainio

Patent number: 6016337Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for televoting in an intelligent network. In the method, (a) a point (SCP) comprising a service control function SCF sends a televoting activation request to a point (SSP) comprising a service switching function SSF; (b) the point comprising the service switching function SSF counts the calls made by the users of the telephone network to predetermined telephone numbers; and(c) information on the number of calls is forwarded to the service control function SCF of the intelligent network. In order that faultless televoting in a multi-SCP environment could be guaranteed, the point comprising the service switching function SSF makes comparisons, upon receiving a televoting activation request, to find out whether a televoting process activated by some other service control point and using the same or some of the same telephone numbers is in progress, and if so, the point comprising the service switching function SSF does not start a televoting process.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1997Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OYInventor: Mika Pykalisto

Patent number: 6011778Abstract: A system and method for controlling cell transmission from a network source unit to network destination units across a network connection is provided. A timer is initiated upon transmission of a cell from the network source unit. A timer output value, provided at the timer output, is adjusted to reflect a time lapse measured from the time of initiation of the timer. The timer output value is compared to an expected cell time interval upon transmission of a subsequent cell, to establish a rate variation indicator. The rate variation indicator generally indicates whether the cell transmission rate is increasing or decreasing at a particular time. A cell priority value, derived from the rate variation indicator, is loaded into the subsequent cell for use by the network connection.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1997Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications, OyInventors: Matti Kalevi Kilkki, Jussi Pekka Olavi Ruutu, Sari Irene Saranka

Patent number: 6005444Abstract: In a phase locked loop, a voltage controlled oscillator VCO is formed in a way known as such from a current controlled oscillator CCO (21), the actual control current (ICNTRL) of which is formed by a voltage-to-current amplifier (22). The input voltage of this amplifier is the loop filter's output voltage and it converts the output voltage into the oscillator's control current. When setting the oscillator at a desired medium frequency, the procedure according to the invention is such that a separate setting circuit is used for generating a basic current (IDA), which is led as control current to the oscillator (21) input. The magnitude of the basic current may be controlled in steps. When the desired oscillator frequency has been formed, the current supplied by the setting circuit is frozen at this value and the loop filter voltage is connected to affect the voltage-to-current amplifier, whereby the phase-locked loop will close.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1999Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OYInventor: Paulus Carpelan
