  • Patent number: 6837285
Abstract: The invention relates to pattern blocks in the tread of a vehicle tire, the tread comprising the tread layer (20) on the tire carcass (25) and on that pattern blocks (1) separated from each other by wider grooves (21). At least part of these pattern blocks comprise fine slits (2), which are substantially narrower than the grooves, each slit comprising within the area (A1) of the pattern block at least one bend (5) or at least one end (4). Two adjacent slits (2) form surface tear points (10), each of which is formed of: webs (3a, 3b) between at least one end (4) of one slit and at least one second slit or its end; or webs (3c, 3d) between the bend of one slit and one second slit or its bend (5). The web width (W2) of the webs is at most five times the slit width (W2), and the adjacent slits restrict between their mutual webs (3a-3d) between them nubs (8) inside the pattern block.

  • Patent number: 6825758
Abstract: A system integrated to each of the tires mounted to a vehicle allows each of the tires to communicate with a mobile communicator, such as for example a mobile phone. The system includes at least sensors for monitoring and measuring the pressure and temperature of the tire. The measured parameters of the tire are fed to a processor that compensates the measured pressure with the measured temperature. The temperature corrected tire pressure is then stored in a memory store. A communications module, operating under a wireless data link protocol such as for example the Bluetooth protocol, sends the stored information to a mobile phone, in response to a request thereby. The temperature corrected data of the tire is also transmitted to the other tires of the vehicle. Any one of the tires may act as the server of all of the other tires for transmitting the information of the respective tires of the vehicle to the mobile phone, which acts as the browser.

  • Publication number: 20040231775
Abstract: The invention relates to a studded air-filled vehicle tire having a rolling direction and comprising a rubber tread with pattern blocks and grooves that separate said blocks. In said tread, there are arranged premade stud holes and in at least part of said stud holes, there are anti-slip studs, having hard cermet pieces of that have a substantially quadrangular shape with diagonal dimensions At least part of the anti-slip studs arranged in the stud holes are orientated so that one of said diagonal dimensions of the hard cermet piece is located in the rolling direction or forms an angle, not larger than the toe-out angle, with respect to the rolling direction.

  • Publication number: 20040163746
Abstract: The invention relates to a combination for installing anti-slip studs in an air-filled vehicle tire provided with a tread and a number of premade stud recesses. The combination includes anti-slip studs with an inner head provided with a bottom flange and an outer head provided with a top bowl, and therebetween a narrower neck portion. In the anti-slip studs at least the shape of the bottom flange is composed of a number of two or more first side portions, the center regions of which are located at a shorter distance from the stud center line, and of a number of two or more edge portions and/or of a number of two or more second side portions, the center regions of which are located at a longer distance from said stud center line. In addition, the combination includes an installation tool comprising a number of jaw fingers, said number being equal to the number of said edge portions, or twice the number of the second side portions, by which installation tool the anti-slip studs are installed in said tread.

  • Patent number: 6533006
Abstract: The present invention relates to a traction winter tire with rows (A-F) of tread pattern blocks (11) and circumferential (a-e) grooves and transverse grooves (j-o) separating pattern blocks from each other, the tread pattern blocks comprising sipes (7, 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b) opening to the tread surface and extending into the tire for enhancing the grip of the tread with a road surface, said sipes being discontinued at support areas (13) operable to attach anti-skid studs (12). The winter tire is characterized in that the tread pattern blocks are displaced relative to one another such that overlapping and axially adjacent tread pattern blocks are connected in pairs into double tread pattern blocks (2) by a bridge part (3), and tread pattern blocks in the shoulder area of the tire are, alternatingly, a tread block of a double tread block and an unbound single tread block (11).

  • Patent number: 6523586
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wear indicator for a vehicle tire (1), the tread of said tire being provided with grooves (2) to improve the grip. As taught by the invention, the surface of the tread in contact with the road surface is provided with indicators (5) indicating the momentary groove depth (H) of the tire, said indicators forming at least one group of elements and extending in radial direction into the tire. The element depth grows by predetermined steps from the shortest element to the longest element. The indicator is formed from a sipe(5) the depth of which is advantageously smaller than the depth (H) of said groove and the cross-section of which in the direction of the tread forms a number, letter, sign or symbol, image or equivalent determining the groove depth of the tread on the height of the plane in the direction of the tread which is tangential to the bottom (2p) of the capillary groove.

  • Patent number: 6441732
Abstract: A vehicle depot such as for example a gas station, a bus stop or a truck terminal, is equipped with a communications system to receive data from a vehicle that represents the operational characteristics of the tires of the vehicle. The information may be automatically transmitted to an appropriate transceiver located at the gas station when the vehicle enters a preset perimeter of, or is a given distance from, the gas station. Thus, when the operator of the vehicle begins to pump gas or input air to the tires of his vehicle, he could readily view the operational characteristics, or the status, of the tires of his vehicle at a display that is mounted either at the gas pump, the handle of the gas hose, the housing of the air supply or some other convenient location at the gas station.
