Patents Assigned to NOOK DIGITAL, LLC
  • Patent number: 9195373
Abstract: A system and a method facilitating navigation in an electronic device and for enabling users of electronic devices to navigate quickly, smoothly, and naturally through electronic books and other documents using multi-touch gestures on a touch sensitive surface of the electronic device. The multi-touch gestures are movements of the multiple touches such as, preferably, a two-finger slide or flick gesture. This gesture is interpreted by the system as a command to navigate to the next or to a previous section of the electronic document, for example, the next chapter in a book or an article or section in a magazine. The device has firmware and/or software capable of analyzing and interpreting the motion, and forwarding the analyzed contents or interpretation to an appropriate software application or other software subsystem that associates the gestures with a set of commands.

  • Patent number: 9144171
Abstract: Techniques for efficient routing of wires and electrical components within a device are disclosed. A wire can be routed, for example, in the space between two battery cells (or other components/structures) with the use of a bracket inserted between the cells to provide structural support. Electrical tape surrounding a battery may be breached to expose a cavity between distinct battery cells. In some embodiments, multiple brackets may be inserted between the cells, creating a trough through which a wire or other component may be routed. After routing a wire through the trough, another electrical part or housing may be fixed above the battery cells. One example case includes a first electrical component placed within the bracket, and a second electrical component routing in a divergent path to the first electrical component external to the bracket, wherein the first and second electrical component have a common start and end point.

  • Patent number: 9134849
Abstract: A system and method that allows pen input and touch input to better co-exist during writing on a touch screen device, such as a tablet device. If the pen/stylus is detected as present and is pointed at the surface, inputs initiated by a user's finger (or other) touch are rejected and pen inputs are allowed. If the pen is detected as present, but is pointed away from the writing surface of the touch screen, stylus/pen inputs are rejected and touch inputs are allowed. If pen is not detected as present, the system ignores all pen inputs. Erasing functions are also provided. The size of the eraser can be made proportional to the pressure level, contact size or signal level of the pen or the user's finger performing the erasing.

  • Patent number: 9128608
Abstract: A method, system and non-transitory computer-readable medium are provided for controlling display of content on an electronic device with a touch screen display, which content may, in response to detection of a squeeze gesture, be reduced on the display screen to reveal additional content, tools and features associated with the one or more pages of the content.

  • Patent number: 9104295
Abstract: A system and method provides a user interface on an electronic device with a listing of the most recently used or viewed items that is organized by the category of item. A menu containing the most recently read items is separated into separate categories such as books and periodicals. The menu displays the most recently opened item in each of the categories. In this manner, one category will not dominate over the other categories on the menu.

  • Patent number: 9104647
Abstract: A platform agnostic digital publication format that supports rendered and resizable text, illustrations and graphics, “read to me” features and interactive functionality. The format takes advantage of the alternate renditions feature of the OCF of the EPUB® specification and includes both a ShockWave Flash (SWF) based rendition and a HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Java Script (JS), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) based implementation. In order to avoid duplicating large components (graphics, audio, etc.), files containing those components are not embedded in the SWF files, but are rather externally referenced by both the SWF and the HTML files. A strict and consistent folder structure and file-naming convention improves efficiency and reduces the potential for error.
