Abstract: This invention relates to improvements in refuse trucks and similar vehicles comprising a removable or upwards pivotable collecting container (7) for the waste or refuse as well as a loading hopper (15) or the like which is located beside the container on the refuse vehicle and is provided with means for compressing the refuse and transferring it from the loading hopper to the collecting container through mutually registering openings in adjacent walls facing each other of the loading hopper (15) and the collecting container (7), respectively.When the collecting container (7) has become filled and is to be emptied, it is separated from the loading hopper (15), thereby rupturing a refuse string extending from the loading hopper into the collecting container. This rupture has the almost unavoidable consequence that some waste comes loose and drops to the ground.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveying and disintegrating refuse and the like comprising a plurality of mutually cooperating, rotatable feed screws arranged in a common feeding-in chamber. The direction of rotation of at least one of said screws is intermittently reversed relative to at least one other of said screws according to a predetermined program for temporarily feeding part of said refuse backwards.

Abstract: An apparatus for introducing waste or the like into a collecting container is associated with a load hopper adapted to receive the waste, and comprises a pair of gripping members for transferring the waste from the load hopper to the collecting container. The gripping members, which are adapted to grip and to compress consecutive portions of waste between themselves and forward these portions to the collecting container, are movable, preferably synchronously and substantially in a common plane, towards and away from each other, as well as towards and away from the collecting container.
