  • Patent number: 5440875
Abstract: An internal flow mixer is attached to the rearward end of a turbofan engine for inverting the engine fan and core streams. Rearwardly of the internal flow mixer is a multi-lobed exhaust nozzle which mixes ambient air with the gases flowing from the flow mixer. • Patent number: 5167118
Abstract: A noise suppressor for use with a turbofan engine, the suppressor being formed of a tubular exhaust shroud affixed to the engine exhaust end, the shroud providing an internal circumferential surface, a flow mixture affixed to the engine exhaust end, an elongated centerbody supported within the exhaust shroud and having an external cross-sectional area less than the internal cross-sectional area of the shroud providing an annular area through which thrust producing exhaust gases of the engine pass, acoustic lining affixed to a substantial portion of the internal circumferential area of the exhaust shroud in the portion thereof receiving the centerbody, and acoustical lining affixed to a substantial portion of the exterior area of the centerbody in the area thereof received within the exhaust shroud so that thereby the thrust producing gases pass through an area of reduced channel height. A substantial portion of the annular area through which the gases pass is encompassed by acoustical lining.

  • Patent number: 5140790
Abstract: A dome shaped structure, and the method of constructing it, are described using curved gore-shaped construction panels which have grooves in their side edges. Rectangular tubular joining members are placed in the grooves, secured therein, and serve to join adjacent panels together. This provides a level surface where the panels are joined so that such adjacent edges of joined panels are even making the interior surface suitable for use as a projection surface.

  • Patent number: 4909346
Abstract: A noise suppression system for use with a jet aircraft engine having a plug support cylinder affixed to the engine, a tubular ejector shroud affixed to the engine and encompassing the plug support, the shroud having a reduced internal diameter adjacent the aft end and a plurality of spaced apart blow-in openings formed circumferentially about the shroud forward end providing passageways for the entrance of ambient air from the exterior to the interior of the shroud. A blow-in door is secured to the shroud for opening and closing each of the blow-in openings. A translating plug is supported on the plug support cylinder and is positionable between a forward position and an aft position and forms an annular exhaust nozzle between the exterior of the plug and the interior of the aft end of the shroud. A daisy mixing nozzle is positioned within the shroud aft of the blow-in doors, the nozzle being configured of a plurality of lobes providing undulating interior and exterior surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4787181
Abstract: A shelter and method of constructing a shelter. The shelter comprises a unitary first shell and a unitary second shell. The first shell is formed by making at least two transverse bends in a single generally rectangular panel and provides a unitary top wall, bottom wall, and first end wall. The second shell is formed by making at least two transverse bends in a single, generally rectangular panel and provides a unitary second end wall, first side wall, and second side wall. The first and second shells are complementarily positioned to create the shelter. A first metallic member is bonded along the peripheral edge of the first shell and a second metallic member is bonded along the peripheral edge of the second shell means. The first and second metallic members adjoiningly facilitate welding the complementarily positioned first and second shells together. A sealable entryway is provided in at least one of the walls.

  • Patent number: 4756502
Abstract: An aircraft seat formed of a container having a horizontal top surface and opposed paralleled downwardly extending sides, a seat base supported parallel to and above the container top surface, an aircraft seat being supported on the seat base, a plurality of low friction pads interposed between the container top surface and the seat base to permit the seat base to be easily moved relative to the container, the seat base and the container top having aligned openings therethrough, a shaft received in the openings and rigidly connected to a brake plate positioned below the container top, a spring urging the brake plate upwardly to lock the seat base relative to the container and an actuating member affixed to the seat base and extending over the shaft providing a mechanism for downward displacement of the shaft to thereby release the force of the brake plate to thereby allow the seat base to be moved and/or rotated relative to the container.

  • Patent number: 4075811
Abstract: A roof panel that is lightweight and structurally strong, and that can be assembled with other panels to form large area surfaces, comprises a rectangular panel made with an extruded U-shaped channel frame member, that is mitered at the corners. The frame is enclosed by two sheet members that are attached by adhesive bond supplemented by screws or other type fasteners to the outer surface arms of the frame. The base portion of the U-shaped channel member has a flange extension on one side whereby the two edges of two adjacent panels can be bolted together. A resilient sealing gasket is placed between the two flange extensions, of the U member so that as the bolts tighten the two members together, the joint between is sealed by the gasket. After the two panels are joined in this manner, a specially shaped inverted U shaped ridge cover channel is placed over the sealed joint, and is latched into notches, which hold the cover in place.
