Abstract: Device bringing a tool (8) to a desired engagement position relative to and in engagement with a strip of material (10). Provision is made for intermittently advancing a strip having a repeating basic non-planar shape, in its longitudinal direction past the tool, holding the strip stationary in its longitudinal direction between intermittent advances, so that the shaping or working engagement of the tool with the strip can take place through a movement perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the strip, and finely adjusting the position of the tool relative to the basic shape in the strip by moving the tool in a direction parallel to the direction of strip advance to a correct engagement position controlled by at least one basic shape sensor (36) connected to the tool.
Abstract: Method for moving a tool (8) relative to and into engagement with an incrementally advanced metal strip (10) having a repeated basic shape. Between the advancements, the strip (10) is held stationary, so that the tool can be engaged by a movement merely across the strip. The tool is moved to the desired engagement position steered by a basic shape sensor (36) connected to the tool. The sensor locates the exact position of one (48) basic shape spaced from the basic shape (50) intended to be engaged by the tool (8). The tool work stroke perpendicular to the strip is triggered only when the sensor reaches this exact position. A device for practicing the metal comprises a bed (2), a slide (4) slidably mounted on the bed with dies (42, 44) and a tool holder (20) carrying the sensor. Between the tool and dies there is a space for incremental strip advance. The sensor (36) is carried spaced from the tool and locates the exact position of the basic shape (48).
Abstract: Sheet metal nails (2) are linked side-by-side with each other in a metal strip (1), the nails being parallel to each other and extending at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the strip from one lateral edge of the strip to the other opposite lateral edge. Each sheet nail (2) has a profiled nail shank (4) having at one end a head (5), a transition portion between the profiled shank (4) and the nail head (5) comprising a relatively gently curved portion (7) which is also profiled, the head being also profiled and no wider than the shank. The nail end remote from the head has a penetration portion with at least one point. The profiling of the nail shank (4), the curved portion (7) and the head (5) is such that these portions have substantially the same cross-sectional shape, the sheet metal in the nail being of substantially uniform thickness.
Abstract: An arrangement for profiling forwardly indexed material webs for producing e.g. parallel, transverse undulations in a sheet metal web (6) of uniform width which is forwardly indexed through a forming space (5) located between a lower bed (1) having a die (3) with an upwardly turned forming surface (4, 21) above which is a holding device (8) carrying a punch mechanism (7) reciprocatingly driven relative to the die (3) and executing a forming stroke while engaging the web and the forming surface of the die. An inclined ramp (22) guides the incoming web obliquely downwards towards the forming location (21) on the forming surface.
Abstract: An arrangement for advancing a continuous strip of nails to a nail driving section (5) of an apparatus having a safety-catch device (24) and a nail strip magazine, and holding the strip in the driving section. One nail at a time is separated from the strip and then driven into a workpiece. A strip guide path (7) in the magazine (6) adjoins the driving section (5), and the strip is biased therein towards a driving location. A rotatable and sideways movable nail positioning element (35) positions the foremost nail in the driving position. The movable safety-catch device (24) is biased to a forward safety position and has a surface (31) near said element (35). A movable latching element (38) is arranged between said surface (31) and positioning element. As the device (24) is retracted, said surface (31) is urged against the latching element (38) thereby moving the positioning element (35) into position-fixing engagement with the strip, immediately behind the foremost nail in the driving position.
