  • Patent number: 4680173
Abstract: An aerosol dispensing system includes a container having a valve-controlled opening for dispensing the container contents, which include hydrocarbon-adsorbent solids such as silica, hydrocarbon propellant adsorbed on such solids, and a weight ratio of hydrocarbon propellant to adsorbent solids ranging up to about 65 parts by weight of the contents, and a liquid composition that may include water, organic oils, alcohols, dispersed and dissolved metals, and metal salts.Water-encapsulating silica permits use of water in aerosol compositions, but prevents mixing of water with other substances in the composition until the composition is dispensed as an aerosol.Aerosol systems including containers with a valve-controlled opening and a valve for dispensing the container contents benefit from the addition of a capillary dip tube extending from the valve into the container contents where the contents are highly viscous.

  • Patent number: 3974945
Abstract: An aerosol dispensing system having an outer container, compressible inner container means positioned within the outer container, and means to compress the inner container means which are positioned between the inner container means and the outer container. A spray head and valve assembly are connected to the inner container means such that movement of the valve assembly to an opened position permits material within the inner container means to be expelled through the spray head in the form of a finely divided aerosol spray. The material within the inner container means includes a major amount of a finely divided powder product in admixture with a neutral propellant and a minor amount of an amorphous silica. The neutral propellant is capable of being adsorbed by the amorphous silica and the neutral propellant is present in amounts sufficient to form a substantially homogeneous wet-paste slurry or a substantially homogeneous liquid with the finely divided powder product and the amorphous silica.

  • Patent number: 3938708
Abstract: An aerosol dispensing system having an outer container, compressible inner container positioned within the outer container, means to compress the compressible container, and a mechanical breakup spray head and valve assembly connected to the compressible container. A relatively non-foaming liquid product is present at a pressure above atmospheric pressure within the compressible container as well as a neutral propellant or mixture of propellants which are in a liquid state and are at least partially soluble or miscible in the liquid product. A second propellant may be present in a propellant region between the compressible container and outer container with the second propellant exerting a differential pressure across the compressible container which is sufficient to eject the product and neutral propellant through the mechanical breakup spray head on opening of the valve assembly. The neutral propellant is present in a relatively small amount, e.g.
