  • Publication number: 20110051921
Abstract: A method for controlling establishment of a communication channel between a service provider terminal of a contact centre and a service request terminal is disclosed. The method comprises responding to receipt of a request to establish the communication channel by: a) determining whether a licence for a media type associated with the communication channel is allocated to the service provider terminal; b) if a licence is determined to be allocated to the service provider terminal, allowing establishment of the communication channel; c) if a licence is determined not to be allocated to the service provider terminal, determining availability of a licence from a pool of licences; d) if a licence is determined not to be available, refusing establishment of the communication channel; and e) if a licence is determined to be available, allocating the licence to the service provider terminal and allowing establishment of the communication channel.

  • Patent number: 7899174
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for facilitating emergency services via packet networks. Emergency service providers will implement emergency proxies to ensure that proper call setup requests for emergency services are forwarded to the appropriate entities, even if those entities are in overload conditions. The emergency proxies may authenticate and filter call setup requests to ensure that only proper call setup requests are forwarded to help prevent such overload conditions. The emergency proxies may operate solely in a packet network, as well as at the interface between a packet network and a circuit-switched network to assist in call setup requests originating from either the packet network or the circuit-switched network.

  • Patent number: 7899060
Abstract: The Packet Control Function (PCF) has limited knowledge about the nature of the packet data arriving on a bearer path connected via the Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN), and cannot make an intelligent decision on its own as to how best to handle the packet data. Thus, the PDSN provides bearer-specific information by classifying the priority of received packet data; encapsulating the packet data within the payload of a Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) frame; and for high priority packet data i) setting a protocol type field in the header of the GRE frame indicating said packet includes an attribute field; and ii) adding an attribute field to the payload of the GRE packet which provides an indication of said high priority data. Furthermore, the PCF can send an A-11 request to the PDSN indicating the features that the PCF is requesting the PDSN enable.

  • Patent number: 7900250
Abstract: A key selection process is provided which secures traffic between VPN end-points using a combination of SVPN group keys and pair-wise keys. The type of key used is based on the dynamic needs of traffic between the end-points, where the needs may include throughput and quality of service. SVPN group keys allow end-points in a group to initiate data communications while obtaining pair-wise keys in the background. Once pair wise keys are obtained, communications can be transferred using the obtained keys. As the throughput, quality of service, routing and other needs of the channel change, the type of keys used for data transfer may concomitantly change between SVPN group keys and pair-wise keys to appropriately utilize network resources. The key selection idea may be extended to allow communication through a hub using a group key while establishing pair-wise channels for group member communications in the background.

  • Patent number: 7899164
Abstract: In one embodiment, a service node will recognize an attempt to initiate a call from a first terminal to a second terminal, and automatically provide information to media clients associated with the first and second terminals such that a media session can be readily established between the media clients in association with the call. The service node may be configured to interact with telephony switches that support the first or second terminals, directly or indirectly via a signaling adaptor. In a second embodiment, the service node will recognize an attempt to initiate a call and will route the call to a gateway, which is controllable by the service node. Once the call is sent to the gateway, the service node may provide instructions to the gateway for routing or otherwise processing the call.

  • Patent number: 7898965
Abstract: Network and performance monitoring in a link state protocol controlled Ethernet network. A first node receives a network layer monitoring command from a network layer monitoring requestor. The monitoring command is directed to a second node. The first node resolves the network layer monitoring command into one or more Ethernet OAM command(s); The first node sends the Ethernet OAM command(s) to the second node, receives the results of the Ethernet OAM command(s) from the second node; and returns the results of the Ethernet OAM command(s) in the form of a network layer response to the network layer monitoring requestor. Furthermore, network layer monitoring commands may be one or more performance monitoring commands, and the Ethernet OAM commands can include Y.1731 commands. An IP flow can be adjusted between the first node and the second node in response to the network layer response returned to the network layer monitoring requestor.

Abstract: An adaptable orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing system (OFDM) that uses a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) to having OFDM signals transmitted either in accordance with time diversity to reducing signal fading or in accordance with spatial diversity to increase the data rate. Sub-carriers are classified for spatial diversity transmission or for time diversity transmission based on the result of a comparison between threshold values and at least one of three criteria. The criteria includes a calculation of a smallest eigen value of a frequency channel response matrix and a smallest element of a diagonal of the matrix and a ratio of the largest and smallest eigen values of the matrix.

  • Patent number: 7894450
Abstract: Nodes on a link state protocol controlled Ethernet network implement a link state routing protocol such as IS-IS. Nodes assign an IP address or I-SID value per VRF and then advertise the IP addresses or I-SID values in IS-IS LSAs. When a packet is to be forwarded on the VPN, the ingress node identifies the VRF for the packet and performs an IP lookup in customer address space in the VRF to determine the next hop and the IP address or I-SID value of the VRF on the egress node. The ingress node prepends an I-SID or IP header to identify the VRFs and then creates a MAC header to allow the packet to be forwarded to the egress node on the link state protocol controlled Ethernet network. When the packet is received at the egress node, the MAC header is stripped from the packet and the appended I-SID or IP header is used to identify the egress VRF.

  • Patent number: 7889731
Abstract: A system and non-transitory computer storage medium storing a computer program for delivering messages to a wireless access terminal are provided. A messaging center is in communication with a 1xEV-DO network. The messaging center is arranged to receive a message having a telephone number as a destination address for delivery to the wireless access terminal. The messaging center has a storage device and a central processing unit. The storage device stores a mapping between the telephone number, a mobile static identifier corresponding to a user of the wireless access terminal and a destination address corresponding to an IP address of the wireless access terminal in the 1xEV-DO network. The central processing unit is in communication with the storage device. The mapping between the telephone number and the IP address is based on a correspondence between the telephone number and the mobile static identifier.

  • Patent number: 7881474
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and devices for a security architecture for use in wireless multi-hop networks. A method for implementing pair-wise encryption key establishment, network node authentication and determining tunnel encryption keys is provided in a following manner. In a multi-hop wireless network including a plurality of network nodes, pair-wise security is established between pairs of neighboring network nodes of the plurality of network nodes. For example, pair-wise security is established in the form of temporal pair-wise encryption keys. Following establishment of pair-wise security between pairs of neighboring network nodes, for a pair of network nodes that are not neighbors, tunnel security is established between the pair of network nodes using tunnel encryption keys derived by the pair of network nodes on an ad hoc basis.
