Patents Assigned to North American Container Corporation
  • Patent number: 5520982
Abstract: A structural member formed from a billet, each member comprising a plurality of elongate corrugated paperboard sheets bonded together with an adhesive and disposed between a top and a bottom cap, each cap comprising at least one ply of a fiberboard sheet, a pair of side caps of a solid fiberboard sheet bonded to respective side faces of the paperboard sheet and to the respective edges of the top and bottom caps. The billet comprises a plurality of structural members each separated by a corrugated paperboard rip-out sheet. A method of manufacture is disclosed in which the billet is built up of structural members and rip-out sheets. The billet is then ripped into planks which are ripped along the rip-out sheets to separate the structural members for use as a substitute member for wood cleats or members.

  • Patent number: 5318180
Abstract: An insert having a central bottom panel with two end panels and two top flanges foldably connected by spaced-apart scores for forming a U-shape insert that is received by a conventional regular slotted container. A pair of elongate members attach to the bottom panel to provide increased bottom rigidity to the container. A pair of cleats attach to each of the side panels and a lower end of the cleat rests on an upper surface of one of the elongate members. A transverse member attaches to each top flange and is supported on an upper end of the cleats. The transverse member supports a top load on the container and the cleats communicate the top load to the elongate members. An enclosed container is disclosed for holding an article on the elongate members by wrapping the insert and the article thereon with a film.

  • Patent number: 5275279
Abstract: A container for storing and shipping outboard motors horizontally. The motor attaches to an H-frame by screwing the bolts on the stern bracket to a cross bar. Vertical cleats attach to the sides of a corrugated paperboard carton, and the cleats guide the H-frame into the carton. A hold-down pad formed by folding a blank of corrugated paperboard having scores defining a plurality of panels attaches to an end wall and engages the skeg of the motor to restrict pivotable movement of the motor during shipping and handling.

  • Patent number: 5269455
Abstract: An integral socket attached to a base for receiving an end of a vertical cleat in a corrugated paperboard container, the socket having a bottom skirt for aligning the socket to a side face of a member of the base and a top skirt for restraining the vertical cleat from moving out of the socket. A cavity defined in the socket receives therein a tenon at the end of the vertical cleat.

  • Patent number: 5096112
Abstract: A wood reinforced corrugated paperboard shipping container with interlocking pallet to direct positioning of the container on the pallet and to interlock the container with the pallet. The pallet includes longitudinal runners and cross members. At least one cross member overhangs the side of a lower runner. The overhang portion of the cross member and the side of the runner together define a recess which receives an attaching strip that is connected to a lowermost portion of the wall of the container. In placing the container on the pallet, a beveled upper surface on the overhang portion of the cross member bears against the bottom surface of the attaching strip. The attaching strip thereby moves downwardly and out to move around the outside end of the overhang portion of the cross member and the back into the recess, thereby matingly interlocking the container to the pallet.

  • Patent number: 5069338
Abstract: A wood cleated corrugated container having a load bearing, protective insert of corrugated board with a pair of rigid support members supported by a plurality of coplanar support points along a plane defining a boundary of, or dividing, the container. The corrugated container includes a wood pallet base having sockets which receive the lower ends of the vertical cleats to resist dislodgement of the cleats from the pallet during handling, shipment and storage.

  • Patent number: 4938350
Abstract: A wood cleated reinforced paper board shipping container for outboard motors including a bottom frame, a bottom box to enclose the powerhead end of the motor, a motor mounting frame, a gear case housing pad, an exhaust housing pad, and an upper box to enclose the gear case end of the motor, the motor rigidly mounted in the frame powerhead down in the container configured to protect the motor from damage while experiencing rough handling during shipping and warehousing of the motor, the motor mount frame having side rails, a front rail, a rear rail, a crossbar on which the motor mounts, the crossbar disposed normal between the side rails at an angle sufficient to orient a mounted motor at an angle with respect to verticle, and a strap around the front rail and crossbar resisting deformation of the crossbar to restrict rotation of the motor during shipping and handling.
