Abstract: Standalone and self-contained cooling systems using compressed liquid and/or gas CO2 containers positioned in an insulated or non-insulated vessel encompassing a container which is either vertically positioned in an upright or an upside-down position. The liquid and/or gas CO2 coolant is then released into a capillary system or flow metering system to allow the CO2 to enter a second body to where the CO2 coolant properties may be leveraged. The second body includes, by way of example, a plate, a cushion, a spot treatment pad for a person's muscle, or a cooler. The temperature is controlled by a metering CO2 releasing system encompassing an electronic control device which sends alerts when pre-defined thresholds are exceeded. The invention's metering CO2 releasing system may be triggered by an electronic or a thermostatic valve or may be triggered manually or by an electronic solenoid.

  • Publication number: 20180266734
Abstract: Standalone and self-contained cooling systems using compressed liquid and/or gas CO2 containers positioned in an insulated or non-insulated vessel and consisting of a specially designed unit where the containers are vertically positioned in an upright or upside-down position. The liquid and/or gas CO2 coolant is then released into capillary tube(s) embedded into a heat transfer plate or heat exchanger thus leveraging the CO2 coolant properties. The temperature is controlled by a metering CO2 releasing system encompassing an electronic control device which can be operated remotely and/or via a touch screen and which sends alerts when pre-defined thresholds are exceeded. The invention's metering CO2 releasing system may be triggered by an electronic or a thermostatic valve or may be triggered manually or by an electronic solenoid. The invention's cooling system also encompasses check valves, which avoid liquid and/or gas CO2 from escaping when removing or replacing CO2 containers individually.

  • Publication number: 20110046257
Abstract: The invention provides an improved unsaturated polyester prepared from the polycondensation of unsaturated diacid monomers or unsaturated acid anhydride mononers and polyol monomers and. optionally, one or more saturated aliphatic or aromatic diacid monomers or anhydride monomers thereof. The improvement comprises 0.5 to 50 weight percent, based on the total monomer weight, of an hydroxyalkyl-functional siloxane of formula (1) below. The invention also relates to a UV curable coating formulation containing a siloxane-functional unsaturated polyester resin, a vinyl ether functional diluents and a photoinitiator. The invention further provides a method of preparing an article with a low-surface energy coating. According to the method, at least one surface of an article with a coating formulation of the invention; and the coating is then cured as described above with UV light to form a low-surface energy coating on the surface.

  • Publication number: 20100089124
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring permeability accurately in expansive clay and non-expansive soils is provided. The apparatus includes hollow porous stone cylinders which prevent the sample from bulging and at the same time allow application of confining pressure on the soil sample enclosed in a flexible membrane, which simulates the field condition and allows for application of back pressure to aid in saturation. The apparatus also allows for accurate comparison of hydraulic characteristics of swelling clays with fluids of various dielectric and other properties. The apparatus can also be used to consolidate the sample either three dimensionally or in one direction and perform permeability tests as well as find out the consolidation characteristics of the sample.

  • Publication number: 20080138912
Abstract: Applicants have produced a chromophore and a polymer that are highly sensitive to the presence of various agents, including organophosphates, pesticides, neurotoxins, metal ions, some explosives, and biological toxins. The detection is accomplished by detecting a change in the fluorescence characteristics of the chromophore or polymer when in the presence of the agent to be detected. The chromophore and polymer may be incorporated into sensors of various types, and they are adaptable for potential field use in areas where detection of these types of agents is desired.

  • Publication number: 20080063189
Abstract: An apparatus and method is described of reducing joint weight for integers involved in a scalar multiplication, such as during cryptography. By way of example, the method is utilized within elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), wherein reducing joint weight speeds the execution of the scalar multiplication and reduces memory overhead. Generally, the recoding technique of the present invention involves generating a binary signed-digit representation for the two or more non-negative integers and then replacing groups of the binary signed-digits from left to right according to a predetermined pattern in order to reduce joint weight. The recoding process of the present invention is performed in a left-to-right order which is compatible with the order of the scalar multiplication. The present method reduces the amount of memory required for performing cryptography and allows it to be implemented in hardware or any desired combination of hardware and software.

  • Patent number: 7304298
Abstract: A photoemissive ion mobility spectrometer is disclosed for of chlorinated hydrocarbons and nitro-organic materials. Backside illumination of a thin gold film by pulsed laser radiation, pulsed ultraviolet xenon flashlamp, or like UV source, is used to produce bursts of low energy photo-emitted electrons. These swarms of thermalized electrons are directly attached by electronegative analytes or by reactant molecules, followed by charge transfer to the more electronegative analyte. Total internal reflection is incorporated for the backside illumination using optical elements such as a fused silica prism. The spectrometer allows for the direct vaporization of adsorbed explosive molecules from surfaces followed by direct injection into the photoemissive ion mobility spectrometer through a heated inlet.

  • Publication number: 20070208975
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for implementing low-power linear feedback shift registers (LFSR) that efficiently produce single or multiple outputs. In one case of single output generation the gates are permanently connected to the respective flip-flops reducing the number of switches necessary. In the case of multiple outputs the outputs are generated several clock cycles at once, which enables the frequency of operation to be reduced by a factor equal to the number of outputs produced at a time. In either case grouping is utilized for reducing the number of gates necessary and the power dissipation. The invention is applicable to a wide range of applications, including but not limited to data compression, encryption, communication, error correction, built-in self-test, and so forth.

  • Patent number: 7089244
Abstract: A system and method for concurrency control in high performance database systems. Generally includes receiving a database access request message from a transaction. Then, generating an element that corresponds to the access request message. The element type is that of a read element, commit element, validated element, or restart element.
