Abstract: In chemical processes for cracking hydrocarbons, reactors are subject to coking. This results in carburization of the metal substrate for the reactor leading to a reduced reactor life. If the reactor is subject to a decoke process, followed by a steam scour and nitrogenating there is a reduced tendency to carburization of the metal substrate improving the reactor life.

The method may include executing at least one iteration of the steps of: (i) performing, by an optical measurement system, a calibration process that comprises (a) finding a misalignment between a region of interest defined by a spatial filter, and an impinging beam of radiation that is emitted from an illuminated area of a sample, the impinging beam impinges on the spatial filter; and (b) determining a compensating path of propagation of the impinging beam that compensates the misalignment; and (ii) performing a measurement process, while the optical measurement system is configured to provide the compensating path of propagation of the impinging beam, to provide one or more Raman spectra.
Abstract: Methods and systems for feed-forward of multi-layer and multi-process information using XPS and XRF technologies are disclosed. In an example, a method of thin film characterization includes measuring first XPS and XRF intensity signals for a sample having a first layer above a substrate. The first XPS and XRF intensity signals include information for the first layer and for the substrate. The method also involves combining the information for the first layer and for the substrate to estimate an effective substrate. The method also involves measuring second XPS and XRF intensity signals for a sample having a second layer above the first layer above the substrate. The second XPS and XRF intensity signals include information for the second layer, for the first layer and for the substrate.

Abstract: Controlling an etch process applied to a multi-layered structure, by calculating a spectral derivative of reflectance of an illuminated region of interest of a multi-layered structure during an etch process applied to the multi-layered structure, identifying in the spectral derivative a discontinuity that indicates that an edge of a void formed by the etch process at the region of interest has crossed a layer boundary of the multi-layered structure, determining that the crossed layer boundary corresponds to a preselected layer boundary of the multi-layered structure, and applying a predefined control action to the etch process responsive to determining that the crossed layer boundary corresponds to the preselected layer boundary of the multi-layered structure.

Abstract: Lignocellulosic biomass (11) is processed to produce organic chemicals by (a) subjecting the biomass to a first hydrolysis (14) to hydrolyse hemicellulose, to form a liquid component comprising the products of hemicellulose hydrolysis in solution, and a solid component comprising cellulose and lignin; (b) then subjecting the solid component to a second hydrolysis (20), so as to hydrolyse cellulose and vaporise the resulting products of cellulose hydrolysis; and (c) then condensing (22) the resulting vapours to form an aqueous solution (25) containing the products of cellulose hydrolysis. After the first hydrolysis (14) and before the second hydrolysis (20), the process also comprises subjecting the solid component to a washing step (16). In this washing step (16) the solid component is washed with the aqueous solution (25) that contains the products of cellulose hydrolysis. Hence the resultant solution contains the products of both the first and the second hydrolysis steps (14, 20).

The controller can be configured to receive, from the REPP controller of each of the plurality of REPPs, energy data regarding available energy of the REPP; determine first energy data received from a first REPP controller of a first REPP of the plurality of REPPs satisfies a condition; and responsive to the determination, adjust a switching position of the switching system to a first switching position to enable the first REPP to provide energy to the behind-the-meter load.
Abstract: A physical adapter receives a data stream comprising data usable to derive a rendition of a signal at a first level of quality and reconstruction data produced by processing a rendition of the signal at a second, higher level of quality and indicating how to reconstruct the rendition at the second level of quality using the rendition at the first level of quality. The physical adapter reconstructs the rendition at the second level of quality and outputs the reconstructed rendition and/or data derived from the reconstructed rendition. The physical adapter is connectable to signal processing equipment that outputs the data usable to derive the rendition at the first level of quality. The physical adapter increases the quality of the rendition of the signal relative to the first level of quality and enhances the functionality of the signal processing equipment.
