Abstract: Methods and systems for feed-forward of multi-layer and multi-process information using XPS and XRF technologies are disclosed. In an example, a method of thin film characterization includes measuring first XPS and XRF intensity signals for a sample having a first layer above a substrate. The first XPS and XRF intensity signals include information for the first layer and for the substrate. The method also involves determining a thickness of the first layer based on the first XPS and XRF intensity signals. The method also involves combining the information for the first layer and for the substrate to estimate an effective substrate. The method also involves measuring second XPS and XRF intensity signals for a sample having a second layer above the first layer above the substrate. The second XPS and XRF intensity signals include information for the second layer, for the first layer and for the substrate.

Abstract: Lignocellulosic biomass (11) is processed to produce organic chemicals by (a) subjecting the biomass to a first hydrolysis (14) to hydrolyse hemicellulose, to form a liquid component comprising the products of hemicellulose hydrolysis in solution, and a solid component comprising cellulose and lignin; (b) then subjecting the solid component to a second hydrolysis (20), so as to hydrolyse cellulose and vaporise the resulting products of cellulose hydrolysis; and (c) then condensing (22) the resulting vapours to form an aqueous solution (25) containing the products of cellulose hydrolysis. After the first hydrolysis (14) and before the second hydrolysis (20), the process also comprises subjecting the solid component to a washing step (16). In this washing step (16) the solid component is washed with the aqueous solution (25) that contains the products of cellulose hydrolysis. Hence the resultant solution contains the products of both the first and the second hydrolysis steps (14, 20).

The physical adapter increases the quality of the rendition of the signal relative to the first level of quality and enhances the functionality of the signal processing equipment.
Abstract: Various example embodiments are described in which an anisotropic encoder-decoder convolutional neural network architecture is employed to process multiparametric magnetic resonance images for the generation of cancer predication maps. In some example embodiments, a simplified anisotropic encoder-decoder convolutional neural network architecture may include an encoder portion that is deeper than a decoder portion. In some example embodiments, simplified network architectures may be combined with test-time-augmentation in order to facilitate training and testing with a minimal number of test subjects.

Abstract: A resistor ladder comprising identical resistors is disposed electrically in parallel with a multicell battery to calibrate voltage-controlled oscillators or analog-to-digital convertors for voltage balancing the battery cells in the multicell battery. Switches in a first state provide the voltage across each resistor as inputs to the VCOs or ADCs. The number of oscillations of the output signal of each VCO or ADC over a predetermined time period are compared to determine an offset error. Switches in a second state provide the voltage across each battery cell as inputs to the VCOs or ADCs. The battery cells with a higher relative voltage can be discharged until they are balanced. Some aspects describe temperature-adjusted and interpolated determinations of electrical quantities in the cells such as voltage and/or current.
Abstract: A method and system are presented for use in measuring one or more characteristics of patterned structures. The method comprises: performing measurements on a patterned structure by illuminating the structure with exciting light to cause Raman scattering of one or more excited regions of the pattern structure, while applying a controlled change of at least temperature condition of the patterned structure, and detecting the Raman scattering, and generating corresponding measured data indicative of a temperature dependence of the detected Raman scattering; and analyzing the measured data and generating data indicative of spatial profile of one or more properties of the patterned structure.
Abstract: A monitoring system and method are provided for determining at least one property of an integrated circuit (IC) comprising a multi-layer structure formed by at least a layer on top of an underlayer. The monitoring system receives measured data comprising data indicative of optical measurements performed on the IC, data indicative of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements performed on the IC and data indicative of x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) measurements performed on the IC. An optical data analyzer module analyzes the data indicative of the optical measurements and generates geometrical data indicative of one or more geometrical parameters of the multi-layer structure formed by at least the layer on top of the underlayer.
