Abstract: A method of manufacturing a microporous polymer structure with a non-porous structure which supports a porous region. The method including: i) providing a substrate; ii) providing a first composition comprising a first polymer, a solvent for the first polymer, and one or both of nanoparticles and microparticles; iii) providing a second composition comprising a second polymer; iv) applying the first composition to the substrate to form a first coating layer; v) phase separating the first coating layer to obtain a phase separated coating layer; vi) applying the second composition to the surface of the substrate and/or onto the phase separated first coating layer; vii) hardening the second composition to obtain the non-porous support structure; viii) dissolving the nanoparticles and/or microparticles to obtain the porous region; arranging the non-porous support structure and porous regions on the substrate to form common interfaces, and effecting phase separation in the first coating layer.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing of porous polymer structures, in particular membranes, the method comprising the steps of providing a mixture of one or more polymers and one or more salt nano- and/or microparticles, primary shaping said blend, and removing said one or more salt particles, wherein at least part of the one or more salt nano- and/or microparticles is one or more solid acids, and whereby the ratio of polymer-to-particle is in the range of 3:1 to 1:10 by weight. Also provided are mixtures suitable to obtain such porous polymer structures, porous polymer structures as described herein, shaped articles containing such structures, and the use of such porous polymer structures, shaped articles and mixtures.
