Patent number: 9818267Abstract: A doorbell system comprises a doorbell chime (18), a first doorbell push (10) for sending a first input signal to the doorbell chime (18) in response to the first doorbell push (10) being activated, and a second device, such as a second doorbell push (14), for sending a second input signal to the doorbell chime (18). The doorbell chime (18) is arranged to emit light (24) of a first color in response to receiving the first input signal and light of a second, different, color in response to receiving the second input signal. The light (24) may be emitted around a perimeter of the doorbell chime, such that it creates a halo effect around the part of the door chime located within said perimeter.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2015Date of Patent: November 14, 2017Assignee: Novar ED&S LimitedInventors: Christopher Parker, Dominic Hargreaves, Felix Haeffner, Iphin Rangson

Patent number: 8350487Abstract: A switch circuit, particularly suitable for dimmer switches, detects zero-crossing or similar points in the supply and uses those to make predictions of future zero-crossing occurrences. The predicted occurrences may be used to time the operation of the switch itself to chop the supply which results in less variation in the power supplied (flicker if the switch circuit is operating a lamp) since the positions of the measured zero-crossings can be subject to noise but flicker is reduced if the switch is operated at times with respect to the true supply waveform. The predicted times may be obtained from a local oscillator having a period set by, for example, low pass filtering the period of the measured zero-crossings. The phase of the oscillator may be adjusted such that an error between the predicted and measured zero-crossings is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2010Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Novar ED&S LimitedInventors: Kanthimathinathan Thirugnanasambandham, Girish Ramdas Wabale, Vignesh Eswara Prasad, Michael Andrew Simpson

Patent number: 8076862Abstract: A lighting installation comprises (a) a lighting load, powered by an AC power supply, said AC power supply having a cycle having a period; and (b) a dimmer comprising a first semiconductor switch operable by the action of a switching voltage to switch a current to the load on and off. In normal operation, the switch may repeatedly switch the current on and switch the current off. The average power delivered to the load is altered by altering the switching on or the switching off so that the current is on for a longer or shorter portion of the period. A method of protecting the dimmer comprises monitoring the current and, when the current exceeds a threshold value, altering the switching voltage to cause the first semiconductor switch to switch off the current.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2010Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Novar ED&S LimitedInventor: Kanthimathinathan Thirugnanasambandham
