Abstract: Disclosed herein are aluminum alloy products and methods of making the aluminum alloy products. Specifically, disclosed herein is an aluminum alloy provided in a temper achieved by rapidly quenching the aluminum alloy product after hot rolling. The aluminum alloys provided in the tempers described herein allow an end user to further process the aluminum alloys using less time and requiring less energy.

Abstract: Metering service instances collect predefined types of metering events on the nodes in which the service instances process. Within each node, the events are statistically filtered, aggregated, and collected. The events are also passed to audit logs. At the conclusion of a metering period or upon detection of a batching event, the aggregated statistically filtered events (statistics) are forward to a collecting cluster where they are populated to a metering statistic data store.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods may operate to monitor operations of at least one processor to define a set of executed applications executed under a first operating system over a selected time period; and to generate an image of a second operating system having sufficient resources to service a subset of the set of executed applications, the subset determined according to a usage pattern defined by at least a portion of the selected time period, the number of resources provided by the second operating system being less than or equal to the number of resources provided by the first operating system. The images may be loaded based on receipt of a menu selection. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: System and method for implementing cloud mitigation and operations controllers are described. One embodiment is a system for controlling operation of a cloud computing environment, wherein the system comprises a repository for storing data regarding characteristics of the cloud computing environment, wherein the stored data includes policy notations designating compliance or noncompliance of the data with policy; an analyst module for analyzing the stored data in combination with external report information regarding the cloud computing environment and for providing results of the analysis; and a controller for evaluating the analysis results and issuing instructions for controlling operation of the cloud computing environment based on the evaluating.

Abstract: Method and system for presenting a view of a calendar on an electronic display. In one embodiment, the method comprises presenting on the display an entry corresponding to a scheduled meeting having at least two participants; presenting on the display a first timeline associated with a first one of the participants, the first timeline comprising an incremental listing of time of day in accordance with a first time zone; presenting on the display a second timeline adjacent the first timeline, the second timeline associated with a second one of the participants and comprising an incremental listing of time of day in accordance with a second time zone; and wherein the entry is presented on the display relative to the first and second timelines to thereby reflect start and end times of the scheduled meeting relative to each of the first and second time zones.

Abstract: Techniques for debugging are presented. Executable instructions, as they are executed, along with variable values, as they appear when being processed, are output as an executable instruction set when an executable application comprising the executable instructions are processed. The outputted executable instruction set includes the processing flow sequence that occurred within the executable application when the executable application was processed.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods may operate to grant a renewable lease synchronization lock to a node for a file having copies distributed among a group of nodes that is unsynchronized and for which no write lock has already been granted. The synchronization lock disables modification of the file, and enables synchronization of a file copy on the requesting node to a synchronization master copy on another node in the group. A renewable lease write lock can be granted to a node in the group when the file is synchronized and when the write lock has not already been granted. The write lock disables granting the synchronization lock, and enables file modification. The synchronization lock and write lock are maintained until their respective leases expire. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: Techniques for secure data management in a distributed environment are provided. A secure server includes a modified operating system that just allows a kernel application to access a secure hard drive of the secure server. The hard drive comes prepackaged with a service public and private key pair for encryption and decryption services with other secure servers of a network. The hard drive also comes prepackaged with trust certificates to authenticate the other secure servers for secure socket layer (SSL) communications with one another, and the hard drive comes with a data encryption key, which is used to encrypt storage of the secure server. The kernel application is used during data restores, data backups, and/or data versioning operations to ensure secure data management for a distributed network of users.

Abstract: Techniques for secure message offloading are presented. An intermediary is transparently situated between a user's local messaging client and an external and remote messaging client. The user authenticates to the local client for access and the intermediary authenticates the user for access to the remote client using different credentials unknown to the user. Messages sent from the local client are transparently encrypted by the intermediary before being passed to the remote client and messages received from the remote client are transparently decrypted before being delivered to the local client.

Abstract: Techniques for controlling authentication are provided. An enterprise injects a control and/or audit manager into the enterprise environment to control and in some instances audit third-party authentication services. A user attempts to access a resource that uses a third-party authentication service. The attempt is intercepted and third-party authentication handled by the manager. After authentication, a session between the user and the resource is established during which auditing services may be enacted. The user authenticates to the enterprise environment and the manager provides authentication for the user to the resource via the third-party authentication service.

Abstract: Techniques for generic data access are provided. A middle-tier server agent uses data providers that can communicate with backend resources. A request received in a first format is used to identify a specific data provider by the middle-tier server agent; the data provider uses the first format to communicate with a specific backend resource in a second format. Results from the specific backend resource are returned from the data provider in the first format and passed to a client that initially made the request.

Abstract: An application can receive a request to insert one file into another file opened for editing within the application. The request can be either in-line or through a menu system of the application. The request can include a context for the file to be inserted. The system can then identify a set of files that can satisfy the context, from which a user can choose what file is to be inserted. The chosen file can then be inserted into the file opened for editing, all without leaving the application.

Abstract: Techniques for workload federated timeout are presented. A federated service manages communications between service components of a system. Each component queries the federated service to determine a last activity time by the other components of the system before timing out during a session. Each component can update its last activity time based on the discovered last activity time of one of the components to prevent a premature time out from the session.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for determining a nearest network resource using GPS coordinates. A GPS enabled computer device may obtain its location by requesting its GPS location. A list of network servers storing the desired data may be obtained by the computer system and the distance between each of the servers and the computer device may be calculated. The system then connects to the resource having the shortest distance without requiring a user to know and decide which server is closest to their location.

Abstract: Techniques for automated and controlled cloud migration or bursting are provided. A schema for a first cloud in a first cloud processing environment is used to evaluate metrics against thresholds defined in the schema. When a threshold is reached other metrics for other clouds in second cloud processing environments are evaluated and a second cloud processing environment is selected. Next, a second cloud is cloned in the selected second cloud processing environment for the first cloud and traffic associated with the first cloud is automatically migrated to the cloned second cloud.

Abstract: Mechanisms to secure data on a hard reset of a device are provided. A hard reset request is detected on a handheld device. Before the hard reset is permitted to process an additional security compliance check is made. Assuming, the additional security compliance check is successful and before the hard reset is processed, the data of the handheld device is backed up to a configurable location.

Abstract: Techniques for visual integration of meeting spaces within a calendar system are presented. A meeting room can be viewed via a map and selected for scheduling a meeting. The map depicts the location of the meeting room within a facility of an enterprise. A meeting scheduler visually sees the meeting room within the map and can select the meeting room and acquire details about the meeting room.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus teach a digital spectrum of a file. The digital spectrum is used to map a file's position in a multi-dimensional space. This position relative to another file's position reveals distances between the files. Closest files can be grouped together. When contemplating voluminous numbers of files for digital spectrums, various methods include: concatenating all such files together to get a single key useful for creating a file's spectrum; or compressing files individually and combining their collective dictionaries into a single dictionary with or without the use of tree mechanisms that defines the digital spectrum. Each provides advantage over the other. The latter consumes considerably less run time because each compression event can be distributed to a separate processor. Method two provides better spectrums because it is more “informationally” valid than is method one.

Abstract: Techniques for identity and policy enforced cloud communications are presented. Cloud channel managers monitor messages occurring within a cloud or between independent clouds. Policy actions are enforced when processing the messages. The policy actions can include identity-based restrictions and the policy actions are specific to the messages and/or clouds within which the messages are being processed.

Abstract: The system and method described herein may include a discovery engine that scans a network datacenter to inventory resources in the datacenter and populate a configuration management database with the resource inventory. One or more destination listeners created from the resource inventory may then selectively sample monitored flows in the datacenter to model interdependencies between the inventoried resources. For example, any monitored flows originating outside the datacenter or failing to correlate with the inventoried resources may be dropped, whereby the interdependencies may be modeled from a deliberately reduced sample of the monitored flows that have information relevant to modeling relationships between resources within the datacenter. Furthermore, directionalities for the monitored flows may be determined, wherein the directionalities provide further information relevant to modeling the relationships between the resources within the datacenter.
