Abstract: In a process, a pipe (1) is connected to a press fitting (2) which has a cylindrical section (3) and a radially outward-projecting annular bead (5) at each end which, at the free end of the press fitting (2) has an inwardly directed bead shoulder (8) and internally forms an annular groove (10) in which is fitted a sealing ring (11). In order to make the connection, the press fitting (2) and the pipe (1) are inserted one into the other and the annular bead (5) and the cylindrical section (3) are pressed radially inwards with the plastic deformation of the pipe (1) as well. This is done by pressing the bead shoulder (8) into the pipe (1) to form a first narrowing (44), and a second narrowing (43) is formed in the pipe by pressing the cylindrical section (3) at a distance from the first narrowing (44) such that the shaping of the second narrowing (43) is separated from the first (44) In such a way that the first narrowing (44) has a radially outwardly projecting section (47) towards the second.

Abstract: A press tool for joining workpieces has a wraparound ring consisting of hinged clamping components, in which the press tool is open at at least one closing point between the clamping components and has grips at that position for a closing device by means of which the clamping components can be brought together to form a closed ring. In order to facilitate handling the press tool especially with large pipe diameters, there is at least one coupling member (49, 50) by means of which the adjacent clamping components (6, 10) can be temporarily connected, the coupling member (49, 50) being designed so as to be flexible in the coupled position in the closing direction.

Abstract: In a method for binding rope- or cable-type cords with press-fit elements (13), the press-fit element (13) is placed over the cord, and the cord and press-fit element (13) are compressed radially and plastically via a pressing device (1, 11, 31, 41, 51) that is equipped with pressure clamps (3, 4), such that a reduction in the material cross-section results. In accordance with the invention, the longitudinal extension of the cord and/or the press-fit element (13) is gauged during the pressing process, and compression is halted when a predetermined end value (db) for the longitudinal extension has been reached.

Abstract: A measurement apparatus is disclosed for a pipe joint assembly (27, 63, 92, 103, 116) to detect the depth of penetration of a pipe end into a press fitting. The measurement apparatus is characterized in that it has an apparatus support (1, 42, 82, 102) that may be set on the outer side of the pipe joint assembly (27, 63, 92, 103, 116), a thickness sensor (23, 24, 74, 75, 90, 113) mounted thereon to detect the thickness of material in the pipe joint assembly (27, 63, 92, 103, 116), and an evaluation device to provide at least a qualitative indication of the detected thickness of material.

Abstract: Disclosed is a press tool for pressing tubular inner and outer nested workpieces (e.g. a pipe end upon which is slid a press fitting). The press tool includes a plurality of clamping components which contain clamping jaws having a continuous circumferential pressing groove (63) shaped in their inner sides, the jaws having a pressing land (65) that extends along only one side of the pressing groove. The press tool also includes a template (44) which fits over the inner nested workpiece but not over the outer slid-on workpiece, the template (44) being positioned on the side of the groove (63) opposite the pressing land (65).

Abstract: A press which is particularly adapted for pressing casings, cable shoes or such items onto a body, having a steering element supported against a drive which on one hand is connected at the press plunger, and on the other hand, is connected with the cylinder, and which upon movement of the press plunger in the working direction, moves the steering element at a fraction of the speed of the press plunger, whereby a locking device, actuated by the workpiece to be pressed, connects the steering element with the press plunger in such a way that the steering element moves with a speed equal to that of the press plunger and that there is an arresting device at the steering element which, in a predetermined position of the press plunger, blocks pressure medium feed to the work room of the cylinder.
Abstract: A clutch and safety overload for portable, power driven, hand tools is described. The clutch comprises a fixed half and a movable half which are urged into contact with each other more firmly as the load requirements increase. The load torque is fed back to the movable clutch half by a gear driven by the output spindle and which meshes with helical gearing carried by a jackshaft on which the movable clutch half is mounted. In one embodiment the overload safety is part of the clutch itself and involves a rotation of the movable clutch half in response to an overload condition, and against a spring force, which causes it to be displaced axially with respect to the jackshaft and out of engagement with the fixed clutch half. In a second embodiment, the overload safety comprises a mechanical linkage which disengages the clutch halves when the output stroke of the driven tool exceeds a predetermined amount.
