  • Patent number: 6361193
Abstract: An improved pull-on clip intended to position and maintain in place a reflector trim within a downlighting housing or “can” and particularly to bias the trim against an opening in a ceiling to retain a finishing flange of the trim in place about the opening. The present clip can be manually assembled to the trim by means of a snap-fastening structure provided on an attachment end of the clip, the use of tools being unnecessary for assembly of the clip to the trim. The clip facilitates lamp positioning within the can and thereby within the fixture such that optimum lamp performance is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6345800
Abstract: A universal load-bearing hanger bracket for hanging a lighting fixture below a grid ceiling has opposed shaped hanger strips which when joined together form an elongated bracket body having a base end with a T-bar channel for securing the hanger bracket to the T-bar of the grid ceiling to thus provide an “on-grid” suspension, and a rail gripping structure above the T-bar channel for securing the hanger bracket to an optional mounting rail of a grid ceiling for an “off-grid” suspension. A hanger bracket assembly is further described wherein an electrical junction box is secured to the body of the hanger bracket and wherein a female plug having a downwardly facing plug end is provided at the bottom wall of the junction box so as to extend through the grid ceiling to provide an accessible electrical outlet next to the suspension location for the lighting fixture.

  • Patent number: 6273592
Abstract: A luminaire 11 has baffle elements 31 in the down light opening of the luminaire's housing 15 for shielding the luminaire's light source 27 from direct view at normal viewing angles S. The bottom edges 51 of the baffle elements are provided with visual accent areas 55 which, at shielded viewing angles, exhibit relatively high observable brightness as compared to the relatively low observable brightness of the baffle elements' reflective surfaces 53. The visual accent area of the baffle elements is relatively small as compared to the baffles' reflective surfaces so as to produce a visual accent without visual discomfort associated with direct and reflected glare.

  • Patent number: 6250780
Abstract: An indoor luminaire assembly for installation in a grid ceiling which has a low plenum depth profile and defines a ceiling plane, which includes a frame which is disposed in the grid ceiling and is co-planar with the ceiling plane. Also included is a reflector which is attached to the frame and is disposed substantially above the ceiling plane. The reflector includes a highly specular reflective inner surface which has a relatively high specular reflectance of approximately 95%. A lamp is also included for generating light vertically oriented from the reflector. Further, an optical unit is attached to the frame and has a prismatic refractor which is disposed substantially below the ceiling plane for distributing light therethrough.
