    Abstract: Systems and methods for producing an organic fertilizer rich in humic substances and nitrogen from waste gases and liquids are disclosed. The methods include forming a mixture of coal and liquid and contacting said mixture with a gas containing ammonia, allowing ammonia react with the coal to release humic substances to the liquid and to complex ammonia with the coal and humic substances controlling the pH of the mixture and forming a humic ammonia rich fertilizer. The systems include a mixing chamber fluidly connected to sources of liquid and coal, a gas contacting chamber, a pH control subsystem, a solid liquid separator and a pathogen deactivator.

The systems for producing a concentrated solution include a source of a gas stream having a contaminant, a source of a dilute solution having the contaminant, and an absorption chamber fluidly connected to the source of the gas stream and the source of the dilute solution. The source of the dilute solution can have a subsystem for removing contaminants from the gas stream, constructed and arranged to receive the gas stream or a liquid-enriched gas and produce the dilute solution.

Systems for recovering nutrients from a high nitrogenous waste are also disclosed. The systems include a solids-liquid separator, a reactor having an inlet fluidly connected to the solids-liquid separator and an inlet fluidly connected to a source of an oxidant, a pH control subsystem, and a dissolved solids concentrator.

The organic material could be sewage sludge, food scraps, manure, wood, bagasse etc. The latent heat of evaporation is recovered through the use of a heat pump mechanism. This allows for the retention of a majority of the heat within the system, allowing optimal drying conditions to be maintained throughout the drying process.
