  • Patent number: 4528007
Abstract: A separating element for gaseous isotopes into two fractions, and consisting of several elongated separating chips with a row of entry openings for the process gas at one side of the chips and a row of exit openings for the heavy fraction at the other side of the chips, with exit openings for the light fraction at the edges of the chips, and of two tubes holding the chips and having at least one chamber, with said tubes being connected by means of connecting elements, and equipped with entry and exit openings on their contact surfaces, with said entry and exit openings arranged in rows in a longitudinal direction of the chips, and for simplifying of installation and construction, this invention provides that the chips are arranged in a longitudinal direction to the tubes, with their sides abutting directly against the smooth contact surfaces of the tubes, and whereby the connecting elements are positioned in one row in the center of the two tubes.

  • Patent number: 4344780
Abstract: An apparatus for the separation of components of a fluid (gas or vapor) by mass difference, especially for the enrichment of a particular isotopic component in the fluid, e.g. in uranium enrichment, comprises a block of generally rectangular plane configuration formed with passages for the fluid separated by partitions. Adjacent each partition is a row of slots through which the fluid passes for deflection by a nozzle-forming baffle and partial interception by a peel-off or skimming baffle which deflects the selected portion of the stream inwardly through slots of a passage on the opposite side of the partition. The passages are alternately closed and open along opposite walls of the passage block and the baffles overhang the respective rows of slots while being mounted on seating ledges extending parallel to the rows and formed in outer surfaces of the block.

  • Patent number: 4344782
Abstract: An apparatus for the separation of fluid mixtures, i.e. gases or vapor mixtures, especially for isotope separation or enrichment, whereby the gas mixture is subdivided into a heavy fraction or component, a light fraction or component and an intermediate fraction or component. A unitary, preferably cast, body forms passages for the gas mixture, which passages cooperate with outer and inner plates forming as separating elements and fitted against precision-machined surfaces of the cast body these elements defining nozzle edges, two oppositely directed flow-guiding grooves, slots through which the light and medium fractions are withdrawn from the flow across these grooves, and peel-off or skimming members which separate the components of the stream.

  • Patent number: 4209309
Abstract: Isotopes are separated, e.g. uranium enrichment is carried out, by the separating-nozzle process in an apparatus which comprises a plurality of separating-nozzle units with respective skimmer diaphragms and nozzles, coolers ahead of these units and gas passages for supplying the isotope gas mixture. The devices are functionally integrated into a separation cascade with a vacuum-tight vessel having a circular plan configuration. The vessel is subdivided by partitions into sectors for the individual stages of the cascade. According to the invention the vessel has a spheroidal shape and is stiffened by the radial partitions. The vessel is set upon four plate-like supports arranged in a cruciform pattern with the separating units and coolers only being located in the respective sectors while the compressors are arranged in four structurally independent compressor assemblies disposed below the vessel in regions bracketed by the supports.
