Abstract: The present invention provides a method for estimating an amount of a powder shaped material passing a bend in a flow channel, such as how much drug from an inhaler reaches the lungs of a person. The estimation is based on both the flow rate of the inhalation as well as the rate of release of the drug into the flow channel, where the rate or release itself depends on the flow.

Abstract: An assembly of an inhaler and a sensing element detachably attached to the inhaler. The sensing element has an activation detector detecting activation of the inhaler. The sensing element has a flow sensor sensing flow in the flow channel. The sensing element may determine, from activation and flow information, whether an inhalation, such as a correct or sufficient inhalation, has taken place. The sensing element may be used sequentially for multiple inhalers.
