Patent number: 5462576Abstract: The invention relates to a heavy metal alloy comprising from about 85 to 98 weight-% tungsten that is essentially present in the form of globular tungsten grains, and nickel and cobalt in a Ni/Co weight ratio approximately between 1.6 and 3.5 as binder elements in an austenitic binder phase which also contains tungsten in solid solution, wherein the alloy sintered from the appropriate powders is subjected to a heat treatment, and a method for its production. The alloy permits the attainment of very high strength values with the retention of high ductility.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1994Date of Patent: October 31, 1995Assignee: NWM de Kruithoorn B.V.Inventors: Peter Stuitje, Ronald Harkema, Cornelie Taal

Patent number: 5419258Abstract: A steel propellant casing includes a substantially cylindrical casing body provided with a casing bottom at one end thereof and with a shoulder cone at an opposite end thereof. The shoulder cone terminates in a casing neck, and has an essentially uniform wall thickness. The shoulder cone wall thickness is, within a range of up to several tenths of a millimeter, less than the wall thickness of the casing body adjacent the shoulder cone between the shoulder cone and the casing bottom.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1993Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Assignee: NWM de Kruithoorn B.V.Inventor: Rene Peters

Patent number: 4902346Abstract: A filler for disintegrating projectiles for training ammunition composed essentially of a screened low carbon, unalloyed steel powder produced by atomizing a corresponding steel melt to form a steel powder, subsequently subjecting the powder to a reducing soft annealing treatment at a temperature of between about 900.degree. and 1050.degree. C., subjecting the annealed product to a comminuting (e.g., beating, impact and scrubbing) process followed by screening, wherein the comminuting process lasts longer than 60 minutes and the screened powder has a grain size below 0.315 mm, an uncompressed or apparent density of between 3.9 and about 4.6 g.multidot.cm.sup.-3, and is compressible in such a manner that the resulting density of a pressed body to be incorporated into the disintegrating projectile lies between about 6.5 and 7.15 g/cm.sup.3.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1987Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: NWM de Kruithoorn B.V.Inventors: Johan S. Patent number: 4716835Abstract: A disintegrating projectile for cartridged maneuver ammunition for an automatic weapon. The projectile includes a thin-walled and closed body of plastic-like material. The body includes a circularly cylindrical section which changes into a tapering hollow tip. A rotationally symmetrical, stiffening, one-piece plastic insert, is adapted to the inner wall of the hollow tip and extends longitudinally of the projectile between a rear circular delimitation and a front circular limitation. The insert has the shape of two cups and includes a circular disc serving as a common bottom of the cups which are arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the projectile. The rear cup has a side wall thickness that constantly increases from the rear circular delimitation to the adjacent face of the circular disc member and the front cup has a side wall thickness that constantly increases from the front circular delimitation to the adjacent face of the circular disc member.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1987Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: NWM de Kruithoorn B.V., PoeldonkwegInventor: Johan S. Patent number: 4359925Abstract: An improved process for joining a shell having a plastic base portion to a cartridge case within a joining region. The joining region extends along a plastic base portion of said shell when it is inserted into the neck portion of the casing and has an upper and lower limit. The base portion is being axially inserted into the neck portion of the casing while being subjected to a relative rotational movement. A glueing or synthetic substance having flow capability is introduced into the neck portion of the casing. This plastic or glueing substance after hardening adheres more strongly to the inner surface of the neck portion than on said plastic base portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1980Date of Patent: November 23, 1982Assignee: NWM de Kruithoorn B.V.Inventors: Hans-Guenter Abet, Adrianus T.
