    Abstract: The present invention provides a method which can efficiently adsorb and remove ionic mercury and/or organic mercury contained in a hydrocarbon oil for a long period of time. The method involves bringing the hydrocarbon oil into contact with an adsorbent containing a layered silicate mineral having an interlayer charge of 0 or an interlayer charge of greater than 0 to 0.6 or less.
