Patent number: 11435527Abstract: An optical fiber cleaving device (1) has a knife (3) and two clamping arrangements (6a, 7). A first clamping arrangement (6a) includes an element (8a) configured to receive a light-radiation-curing adhesive (11) together with an end portion (5a) of the fiber (5), which is embedded in the adhesive (11). A lamp (15) is configured to apply light on the adhesive (11) to cure it so that the end portion (5a) of the fiber (5) is firmly bound to the element (8a). The end portion (5a) is in this way fixedly held during cleaving of the fiber (5). A method is also provided for cleaving an optical fiber (5), in which the fiber (5) to be cleaved is clamped using light-radiation-curing adhesive (11), as well as use of a fiber cleaving device (1).Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2018Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Patent number: 10434675Abstract: An apparatus for and method of removing a protecting synthetic coating (1) from an elongated element (2) in the form of an optical fiber (3) surrounded by the coating wherein a cut (8) is created into the coating by knife edges (6). The element is displaced with respect to the knife edges in the longitudinal direction of the element for displacing coating material (17) by the knives. At least one drop of liquid (12) with wetting properties is supplied to the cut for being sucked into a space created between the coating and the optical fiber during the displacement for acting as a lubricant for sliding the coating along the fiber to remove the coating from the fiber.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2018Date of Patent: October 8, 2019Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Patent number: 10215922Abstract: An optical fiber cleaving device comprises a frame provided with cleaving means for cleaving an optical fiber (4) therewith, and first and second (6) fiber clamping arrangements configured to hold a fiber (4) to be cleaved on opposite sides of the fiber cleaving means during cleaving of the fiber (4). The optical fiber cleaving device further comprises first securing means configured to re-movably secure said first clamping arrangement to the frame and second securing means configured to removably secure said second clamping arrangement (6) to the frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2015Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Patent number: 9914235Abstract: In a method of removing a protecting synthetic coating (1) from an elongated element (2), the elongated element (2) including an optical fiber (3) surrounded by the coating, a cut (8) is created into the coating by knife edges (6). The element (2) is displaced with respect to the knife edges in a longitudinal direction of the element (2) for displacing coating material (17) by the knives. At least one drop of liquid (12) with wetting properties is supplied to the cut for being sucked into a space created between the coating and the optical fiber during the displacement of the coating for acting as a lubricant for a sliding of the coating to be removed along the fiber.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2008Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Patent number: 7896208Abstract: A method for cleaving thin rods of glass or quartz with a rod cleaving blade (27) and body (28) carrying the blade, is provided. The body (28) is of material varying in length through application of electric and/or magnetic fields. Driving force (31, 33) achieves relatively steady movement of the blade (27) towards a desired cleaving point and relatively steady small-amplitude vibratory component of movement towards and away from the cleaving point superimposed to the relatively steady movement, by influencing the body (28) electrically and/or magnetically. The blade is driven to vibrate with a frequency below 1 kHz during cleaving operation.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2009Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Patent number: 7722020Abstract: An arrangement for clamping a thin rod of glass or quartz having a diameter below 1 mm in two mutually-spaced clamping locations for holding the rod extended between the two clamping locations. The arrangement also comprises first clamping device arranged to clamp the rod in a first clamping location. The first clamping device has a first clamping member (22) with a clamp face (23) of substantially V-groove type for receiving the rod in the groove (24). The first clamping member is movably arranged with respect to a framework (45) of the apparatus for clamping a rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2003Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Nyfors Teknologi ABInventor: Uwe Böttcher

Publication number: 20060042432Abstract: An apparatus for cleaving thin rods of glass or quartz comprises a rod cleaving blade (27) and a body (28) carrying the blade. The body is of a material varying its length through application of electric and/or magnetic fields therein. Driving means (31, 33) are adapted to achieve a relatively steady movement of the blade towards a desired cleaving point and a relatively small-amplitude vibratory component of movement towards and away from the cleaving point superimposed to the relatively steady movement by influencing said body electrically and/or magnetically. A driving means is adapted to make the blade vibrate with a frequency below 1 kHz during the cleaving operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2003Publication date: March 2, 2006Applicant: NYFORS TEKNOLOGI ABInventor: Uwe Bottcher
