Patent number: 6732396Abstract: A self-wringing ratchet mop including an elongated handle, a mop head having mop strands supported on the handle, and a wringing mechanism for wringing the mop strands. The wringing mechanism includes a sleeve attached to the mop strands and supported for longitudinal and rotational movement relative to the handle. The handle includes a first ratchet portion formed by teeth and the sleeve includes a second ratchet portion formed by pawl members for engaging the first ratchet portion to permit the sleeve to rotate in a first direction and prevent rotation in a second, opposite direction. The pawl members are supported on a deformable resilient ring wherein deformation of the ring causes the pawl members to disengage from the first ratchet portion and permit rotation of the sleeve in the second direction.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2002Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Christopher J. Patent number: 6675427Abstract: The present invention relates to a mop having a mop head supported on a handle and including a mop head base and a mop body. The mop body is defined by a plurality of mop strands supported on the base. A scrubber element is supported on the base, centrally within the mop body. The scrubber element further has opposing faces on a scrubber body located at laterally opposing sides to define abrasive scrubbing surfaces. A single attachment element provides a simple and cost-effective way to attach the scrubber element simultaneously with attachment of the mop strands. The scrubber element further is engaged with the mop head base to bias the scrubber element into a folded configuration folded so that the opposing faces are facing away from the mop handle thereby enabling a mop user to easily manipulate the scrubber element provided for removal of difficult stains, etc., by applying downward pressure to the handle.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2002Date of Patent: January 13, 2004Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Andrea Chiapelli, Christopher J. Patent number: 6625838Abstract: A mop including a mop handle and a mop head located at one end of the handle and including a plurality of flexible strands defining a mop body. A sleeve is positioned on the mop handle and is supported for slidable movement in an axial direction parallel to the handle, and is further supported for rotatable movement relative to the handle. A lower end of the sleeve is provided with engagement portions defined by slots for engaging and gripping the strands of the mop body to facilitate twisting of the mop body by the sleeve. In addition, a ratchet and pawl mechanism is provided by cooperating portions of the mop body and sleeve to limit rotation of the sleeve to a single direction during a wringing operation.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2001Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Laux, David Hunt, Robert Roth

Patent number: 6336240Abstract: A mop having a mop head with a first sponge member supported to a bottom side thereof and defining a first floor engaging surface. A second sponge member is supported on the mop head and defines a second floor engaging surface. The second sponge member retains a releasable cleaning substance for facilitating cleaning of a surface engaged by the mop. In addition, the second sponge member forms a replaceable auxiliary member which is detachably mounted to the mop head and includes hinged retention members for engaging within receptor passages defined in the mop head wherein the retention members facilitate engagement with and disengagement from the mop head.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1999Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Assignee: O'Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Christopher J. Patent number: 6006392Abstract: A self-wringing mop including an elongated handle, a sleeve slidably mounted on the handle and a flexible relatively long mopping member having a first end attached to the sleeve and a second end attached to a lower end of the handle. The mopping member includes material defining a plurality of flaps which are movable to a location below the lower end of the handle in response to movement of the sleeve toward the lower end of the handle. The plurality of flaps are connected to each other by a circumferentially extending extent of material of the mopping member to form a bonnet adjacent to a lower end of the flaps.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1998Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Emil B. Patent number: 5896613Abstract: A butterfly mop including a scrub strip which is mounted to an actuation yoke for the mop. The scrub strip is formed as a clip-on structure mounted to the actuation yoke adjacent to an end of the yoke. The scrub strip is movable from a non-use position to an operable position when the actuation yoke is actuated to wring the mop. In addition, a mechanism is provided for locking the scrub strip in its operable position to facilitate use of the scrub strip.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1997Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Steve P. Patent number: 5890254Abstract: A hand manipulated implement including an implement head, a handle and a connector rigidly connecting the handle to the implement head. The connector includes a plug which is inserted into the handle and which includes an exposed end for inserting into a collet base defined on the implement head. The connector plug and collet base each include an aperture wherein the apertures of the plug and base are aligned by ribs cooperating with grooves and slots at the lower ends of the plug and collet base. A clip is inserted through the aligned apertures to thereby hold the handle against longitudinal movement relative to the collet base. In addition, a collet is formed at an upper end of the collet base for frictionally engaging the handle and thereby further limiting movement of the handle relative to the implement head.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1997Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Assignee: O-Cedar Brands, Inc.Inventors: Steven Courtney, Paul A.
