  • Patent number: 6247575
Abstract: A safety device is described for a passenger conveyor system, more particularly an escalator or travelator, that includes a main drive shaft (2) mounting return elements (3) for the transport chains (4) of the steps or pallets, a further shaft containing return elements (3) for the handrails (7) and at least one gear (8, 9, 10) connecting the main drive shaft (2) to the shaft. The drive power of at least one drive unit arranged external to the return elements (3) is translatable via a transport device (12) to the main drive shaft (2).

  • Patent number: 6129442
Abstract: A lighting device for passenger conveyors, such as escalators and travelators, is provided particularly in the region of the handrail and/or skirting of the passenger conveyor, and includes at least one light-guide oriented in the conveying direction of the passenger conveyor, substantially continuously, having lateral light emission and which in the region of at least one of its ends can receive the bundled light beam of a light source. The light-source runs along the length of the conveyor and its end faces a projector whereby light generated by an electric lamp of the projector is passed through a light concentrator to bundle the light into a concentrated beam. The bundled light beam is projected onto the end of the light-guide thereby lighting one of the handrail and the step track, respectively, along the transport direction of the passenger conveyor.

  • Patent number: 5992604
Abstract: A switching arrangement for returning a people-conveying device to a state of readiness comprises a plurality of light barriers which are formed by emitters and receivers and whose signals are fed to at least one electronic evaluation device, which automatically returns the people-conveying device to a state in which it is ready for use after an emergency off switch has been activated. The individual emitters and receivers are combined to form a light barrier chain and are disposed approximately opposite one another at predetermined spacings. Emitters and receivers are provided alternately on each side of the people-conveying device. The wiring between individual emitters and receivers on each side of the people-conveying device is brought about by plug-in connections without any connections to the emitters and receivers on the opposite side.

  • Patent number: 5944164
Abstract: A method for the assembly/dismantling of axles and/or the steps or pallets of escalators or moving sidewalks includes providing between parallel extending traction elements a plurality of axles and connecting the axles to the traction elements. The axles are provided with flattened zones in assembly regions for the steps or pallets and the assembly regions are provided, respectively, with an approximately eyelet-shape designed that has a corresponding slot fitted onto the respective flattened zones of the axles. The axles are turned at a predetermined angle around their longitudinal axis relative to the steps or pallets and subsequently at least one connecting element is inserted into a respective one of the assembly regions for securing the axles relative to the steps or pallets.

  • Patent number: 5819902
Abstract: An arrangement is provided for monitoring at least one of raising and lowering of individual steps of a band of steps of an escalator The escalator includes guide rails for the steps, a driving gear, and endless driving chains provided in a region of balustrade bases and being driven by the driving gear. The guide rails have a transition curve from a horizontal run to a vertical run. Each step includes rollers supported on the guide rails and is held between the endless driving chains. A safety device is disposed essentially in the transition curve for switching off the driving gear.
