Abstract: A process for producing a speaker grille cover having bands of imperforate metal that have a physical appearance and or audio performance which can be altered or improved to meet styling and/or audio performance objectives. The process comprises these steps, not necessarily executed in the sequence listed: piercing and expanding a sheet of metal to manufacture an area of expanded metal; and interposing an area of imperforate metal between areas of expanded metal. The product made thereby is a speaker grille cover having an area of expanded metal; and bands of imperforate unexpanded metal that are bounded by an area of expanded metal.

Abstract: A pierced metal speaker cover grille has a series of tabs extending away from the turned edge of a front cover portion, an outwardly inclined cutout section formed on each tab. The inclined cutout sections cam each associated tab inwardly as it is advanced into an aligned slot in the mounting panel, and lock behind the rear edge to secure the cover grille in place.
Abstract: A pierced metal speaker cover grille has a series of tabs extending rearwardly away from the turned edge of a front portion, pairs of angled ears formed on each tab, one on each side thereof. The ears cam the tab as it is advanced into an aligned slot in the mounting panel, and lock behind the rear edge to secure the cover grille in place.
Abstract: A frameless pierced metal speaker grille is directly attached to a panel in which a speaker opening is formed by a series of tabs integrally formed in the speaker grille at spaced locations about the perimeter of the grille. Each tab includes a rear facing planar section extending inwardly from a turned edge perimeter of the cover grille and abutted against the panel structure, a v shaped engagement section extending rearwardly from the planar section and having legs adapted to squeeze fit the panel edge adjacent the speaker opening, and an entry section extending rearwardly from the v section and inclined inwardly to cam the tab inwardly at assembly of the grille. The tab shape enables secure spring fitting to the panel structure while being formed of the relatively mild material of the grille material which is pierced as by being perforated to form the open area cover grille.
