Abstract: A method is presented of erasing, in a document data processing device, a stored information pattern on a rewritable data carrier that is accessible by a data processing facility of the document data processing device. The document data processing device includes primary processes for processing document data, wherein data may be stored on the data carrier, and secondary processes for erasing stored data, through overwriting a selected storage area of the carrier by a shredding pattern. According to the method, the primary and secondary processes are run asynchronously, e.g., the secondary processes are run in background, in order not to hinder the primary processes. In a particular embodiment, an initial shredding run is made directly after a file is no longer used, and additional shredding runs are made in background.

Abstract: A control unit for a printing apparatus has a plurality of heat sources, each heat source being operable at an individual power level. The control unit is configured to control the power supplied to the heat sources such that, at each instant, the sum of the delivered individual power levels is less than or equal to a maximum allowable power. The control unit is also configured to control the power delivered to the heat sources on the basis of sequential cycles and for each cycle, to receive for each heat source a requested power pulse duration, to schedule within the cycle instants at which power is to be delivered to the heat sources, based on the individual power levels and requested pulse durations and to deliver the power according to the scheduled instants within the cycle.
Abstract: A scanner and a method of scanning an image on an original includes an optical sensor having sensor elements for each of three basic colors that is used to generate pixel values of the scanned image. Each pixel value represents an optical density of a pixel of the image and is generated mainly on the basis of a signal of only one of the sensor elements. Each of the sensor elements for each of the basic colors is used to generate pixel values representing substantially different parts of the image.

Abstract: A sheet flipping device including a receiving member for receiving a sheet, a flipping volume defined by the flipping movement of the sheet when in operation, a flipping element for flipping the sheet around an axis of rotation within the flipping volume onto the receiving member, and a discharge element arranged adjacent to said flipping volume, the discharge element having a base extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of the axis of rotation and having multiple electrodes with an end portion extending in a direction towards the flipping volume. The sheet flipping device is useable in a sheet stacking device and an image reproduction apparatus.
Abstract: A method of providing a graphical user interface includes displaying a graphic representation of a data object at an initial location, receiving a command selecting the data object from a user, moving the graphical representation of the data object towards a destination location upon receiving an indication of the destination location from a user, and causing an at least indirect transition of the object from a first state to a second state at a time when the graphical representation of the data object is positioned substantially at a final destination location. Output enables a user to distinguish the first state from the second state. A first timer is started in response to receiving an indication of a destination location from a user through the interface. The transition from the first state to the second state is automatically caused only after the first timer has run over a pre-determined period of time.
Abstract: A method of preparing an inkjet printhead, prior to generating an image onto a receiving medium, the printhead containing a substantially closed ink duct comprising an inlet opening and a nozzle, said duct being operationally connected to an electro-mechanical transducer, the method including the steps of arranging that the duct is filled with ink; generating a pressure wave in the ink, the pressure wave causing a deformation of the transducer which generates an electrical signal as a result; analyzing the electrical signal, and deciding on the basis of the analysis whether the inkjet printhead is ready to proceed with the printing of the image. The inkjet printer is also modified to perform the present method.

Abstract: Disclosed is a networked reproduction system comprising connected scanners, printers and servers. A reproduction job to be carried out includes a number of subtasks. For the execution of these subtasks, services distributed over the network are available. A service management system selects appropriate services and links them to form paths that are able to fulfill the reproduction job. The user may define additional constraints that apply to the job. A path, optimal with respect to constraints, is selected.
