  • Patent number: 5452408
Abstract: A method of selectively assigning to a picture element to be imaged with a color reproduction system a pertinent (permanent) indication relating to the distinguishing of color with respect to picture element, wherein, on the basis of the associated parameter values related to color saturation and intensity, a choice is first made for that picture element from a permanent indication of colorlessness a permanent indication of color behavior, and a provisional indication concerning an undefined color behavior. In the case of a picture element having a provisional indication, this indication is then converted to a permanent indication on the basis of the results of an analysis of the distribution of parameter values in the color space with respect to picture elements occurring within an environment of the associated picture element. According to this method, pastel hues can be reproduced in a logical and perceptually acceptable manner despite the presence of scanner noise.

  • Patent number: 5400153
Abstract: A method and system of determining a reference value for the intensity associated with a color indication variable and obtained by scanning an original with a color scanning unit the color scanning unit being adapted to scan the original point-by-point, the method comprising determining a locally valid reference value for each scanned point and for each color indication variable, provided the intensity value related thereto deviates from a defined standard value by less than a preset value, by adapting the then locally available reference value by using a fraction of the value representing the intensity in the case of the color indication variable concerned. For example, a white reference value (white point) can be determined for an original point by point, with the result that weak color tones which are perceived as white are also regarded as white, while in addition small variations in these weak color tones (e.g. uneven yellowing) are also noted as white.

  • Patent number: 5397292
Abstract: An apparatus for folding and depositing drawings having legends, the apparatus having two folding stations for folding drawings in two directions perpendicular to one another, and a collecting station for collecting the folded drawings with their legend on the same edge. The folding stations fold drawings of a first group, formats (A1 and A2) fed in the transverse direction, first lengthwise and then transversely, and fold drawings of a second group, formats (A0 and A3) fed in the longitudinal direction, first transversely and then lengthwise. Depending upon the group to which they belong, drawings to be folded are folded differently in the two folding stations, namely placing the folding stations selectively in operating states in which the folding stations apply each of the folds to be formed consecutively in directions which are the inverse of one another.

  • Patent number: 5369576
Abstract: To enable inflected word forms to be derived, a method and a data processing unit are provided for inflecting a given word and for adapting the lexical data of the word correspondingly by reference to a classification scheme containing inflection rules for a given natural language. The effect achieved is that inflected word forms do not have to be contained in an electronic word register, and this results in a considerable reduction in memory space occupied by the word register.

  • Patent number: 5319469
Abstract: In the coding of image data corresponding to a raster of pixel values, a generalized run length coding is used in respect of the difference between the pixel values in the raster line to be coded and the pixel values in the same position in the preceding raster line, such that with respect to multi-value pixels (gray values), the generalized run length coding comprises an approximation of the course of the differences as a function of the position in the raster line with a linear function and the code then contains the number of pixels and a characterization of the approximating function, and with respect to binary pixels (on/off), the length is simply a determination of the series of pixel values each equal to the pixel value in the same position in the preceding raster line, wherein in a particularly effective embodiment, this generalized run length coding with respect to the preceding line is combined with generalized run length coding of the pixel values within a line, both methods each being performed in
