    Abstract: A submersible connector has releasably mateable first and second connector units. The first connector unit has at least one electrical pin extending through a bore in a retaining base and projecting outward from the forward end of the base. The second connector unit has at least one electrical socket module which receives a forward portion of the electrical pin when the units are mated. A pin seal device is located in one of the connector units and has a through bore which engages part of the pin at least in the mated condition of the units. The seal device has a first and second seals in sealing engagement with portions of the connector units when mated, and a chamber between the seals extends over an opposing portion of the pin at least in the mated condition of the units.

    Abstract: First and second connector units each have a contact chamber with a front wall having an opening closed by a stopper. Seals in the respective openings surround and seal the stoppers prior to mating. The stopper in the first connector unit is retracted into the housing during mating while the front wall of second connector unit is retracted into its housing during mating, pushed back by the front wall of the first connector unit, separating the stoppers from the end wall openings and allowing communication between the contact chambers through a passageway defined by the aligned openings. The seals in the end walls seal the passageway during and after mating. A contact assembly in the first connector unit is mounted on a movable arm and moves transversely into alignment with the passageway for contact with a corresponding fixed contact assembly in the second connector unit as the units move into mating engagement.

    Abstract: A connector has first and second connector units, each unit incorporating an oil-filled chamber housing one or more contact elements to be joined. At least one connector unit has a face seal assembly which seals the forward end of the contact chamber in the unmated condition. The face seal assembly comprises three elements. One element is an annular elastomeric seal situated radially outward. The two other elements are inner seal elements which are pressed together radially to form a substantially disc-like shape. The resulting disc-like shaped seal fills the central, circular end face opening of the outer annular seal. As the connector units are mated, elements of the elastomeric face seal assembly are displaced, one axially, and others both axially and radially, creating an opening between the oil-filled chambers that is sealed from the outside environment.

    Abstract: A tubular cable seal member of elastomeric material has at least one axial slit for allowing the seal member to be installed transversely over a cable. The seal member is installed in an annular seating cavity in a housing which encloses at least part of the cable, and is squeezed between opposing surfaces of the cavity and cable to provide a sealing pressure. At the same time, opposing surfaces of the axial slit are squeezed together with the same sealing pressure. The housing may be a clamshell-like, two part housing and may have an internal chamber extending between two cable seal members which provide a seal between opposite end ports and the cable at opposite ends of the chamber. Side runner face seals extend between the cable seal members along opposite sides of the chamber to seal the chamber when the housing parts are closed together.

    Abstract: A dry mate connector has first and second connector modules, and a coupling member or slidable retention sleeve mounted on the first module. Resilient latch formations are provided for releasably securing the modules together in a mated position. The modules each have at least one contact for communication with the contact of the other module within a closed, locked and sealed contact chamber formed by the coupling member and modules in the mated position. Mating, locking and sealing are achieved by movement of the parts in a single, mating direction, and the modules are separated by motion in a single direction opposite to the mating direction, using the same two grip surfaces for both mating and unmating. A collapsible fluid-filled hose with bellows portions may extend between a first connector module and a second connector module in an optical cable arrangement using the dry mate connector.

A high pressure barrier plug in the casing seals the chamber, and at least one sealed feedthrough device extends through the barrier plug for connecting the conductor to the opposite side of the barrier plug. The conductor extends from the cable end through the first chamber and is connected to the feedthrough device. The chamber is substantially filled with an initially pourable material which cures to form a solid material surrounding the conductor.
