    Abstract: A solid probe adapted to detect the presence of sand in a fluid stream flowing through a conduit. The probe is positioned in a fluid stream and mechanically transmits the acoustical energy released when particulate matter strikes the probe to a transducer external to the probe which in turn generates an electrical signal having a frequency component representative of the particulate matter. The electrical signal is then processed to furnish information about the sand content of the flow stream.
