  • Publication number: 20060193503
Abstract: A method including attempting a match of a series of sample biometric signatures into a database having one or more valid biometric signatures; accumulating a first number N1 of consecutive failed match attempts prior to a successful match wherein a failed match attempt occurs when one of the sample biometric signatures does not match any of the valid biometric signatures; comparing the first number N1 and the second number N2 to a predetermined threshold value M for a match comparison; validating a successful match when the comparing feat determines the first number N1 and the second number N2 both have a particular relationship to the predetermined threshold value M; and recording a second number N2 equal to the value of the first number N1 when a sample biometric signature matches one of the valid biometric signatures.

  • Patent number: 6267879
Abstract: Described is a continuous liquid filtering apparatus having a preliminary filtering chamber 9, a filtering chamber 3, a filtered liquid chamber 12, and an electromechanical cleaning system. In operation, after entering inlet 1, liquid passes through coarse screen 2 into the filtering chamber 3. The liquid then passes through a multi-layer sintered filtering element 4 before exiting the apparatus through the outlet 6. The electromechanical cleaning system includes a hollow connector unit 10 having dirt suctioning members 5 and spraying nozzles 11 for cleaning the sintered filter element. The cleaning system is activated whenever the liquid differential pressure exceeds a predetermined valve indicating that the cylindrical filter requires a cleaning treatment. The spraying nozzles 11 are in fluid communication with the filtered liquid chamber 12 via booster pump 13.

  • Patent number: 5560318
Abstract: A method of raising sea-water fish is performed by raising the sea-water fish in water in a display tank which includes a device for circulating the water in the tank, a filtering material supporting plate having a sand-like filtering material containing calcium therein. In this case, the grain size of the sand-like filtering material is set between 2.5-3.5 mm. Coral sand is preferably used as the sand-like material, since it promotes the propagation of aerobic bacteria and converts ammonia and nitric acid to harmless materials and the above grain size exhibits better effect.

  • Patent number: 5082560
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating a liquid mixture to separate a clarified fraction therefrom leaving a concentrated sludge fraction involve injecting a flocculent material into the liquid mixture; and inletting the liquid material and the flocculent maerial tangentially into a vertical tank having a perforated plate spaced from its upper end dividing the tank into an upper chamber and a lower chamber, a to produce a flow in the lower chamber having a rotational velocity in the horizontal direction adjacent the outer periphery of the lower chamber, and a lower rotational velocity in the horizontal direction adjacent the center of the lower chamber. The holes in the perforated plate define reduced-area passages from the lower chamber to the upper chamber producing a vertical flow of low velocity in the lower chamber and of higher velocity through the passage in the perforated plate.

  • Patent number: 5047039
Abstract: A ligator assembly comprising a hollow, two-piece, bullet-shaped case dimensioned to be inserted in and through a body member, a pair of suture needles carried by the case, and a suture affixed to the needles. The case is provided with a pair of guide tubes for retaining the needles and guiding them out through a substantially transverse slot at the end of the case. A drive mechanism is also provided for remotely driving the needles longitudinally out of the case through the slot. The case is selectively connectable to an elongated tubular operator for placement of the ligator assembly. Apparatus for effecting an anastomosis comprises female and male connector components usable with an operator, an inflatable anvil assembly, and a connector actuator and which include mutually facing clamping surfaces for clamping generally annular tissue portions of the first and second body members together. The female connector component includes a plurality of resilient legs having bores extending therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4873977
Abstract: Apparatus for effecting anastomosis of the distal urethra and the bladder neck includes a tubular urethral sound. An inflatable anvil is selectively connected to the sound through an opening in the urethra adjacent the prostate. The sound is then retracted outwardly to position the anvil in the urethra. A second implement is passed downwardly through an incision in the bladder and is connectable to the anvil by alignment and locking means following surgical removal of the prostate. Male and female connectors mounted respectively on the anvil and the second implement and formed of a material which dissolves in the human body are driven toward each other by the second implement. The male connector penetrates the urethra and the bladder neck and then moves into the female connector for engagement with locking means holding the two connectors together to clamp the urethra to the bladder neck to automatically provide an anastomosis.
