  • Patent number: 6712675
Abstract: A grinding wheel (28) that rotates around an axis and that has a working area consisting of an annular surface with a circular arc profile in axial cross section is used to first generate a surface on a cutting blade (22) by grinding with the annular surface during a first orientation in space between the grinding wheel (28) and the cutting blade (22) by means of at least one first relative translational movement between the same, and subsequently at least one part of the generated surface is reground with the annular surface during a second orientation in space between the grinding wheel (28) and the cutting blade (22) by means of at least one second relative translational movement between the same. The grinding wheel (28) is a diamond cup-type grinding wheel. One part (34′) of the working area (34) is located in a face area and another part (34″) is located in a cylinder area of the grinding wheel (28).

  • Patent number: 6709318
Abstract: A grinding wheel and a method for grinding bar blade for the production of spiral gear teeth are described. For economical grinding of such bar blades the grinding wheel has a conical grinding surface (Pp) widening from a small diameter (d1) to a large diameter (d2), a cylindrical grinding surface (Ps) adjoining the conical grinding surface (Pp), and a toroidal grinding surface (G) adjoining the cylindrical grinding surface (Ps). The grinding wheel embodied in this manner enables profile grinding (rough grinding) and subsequent generating grinding (finish grinding) of the surfaces of the bar blade without the necessity of remounting the blade. For practical purposes the grinding wheel rotates about a stationary axis (S), and the bar blade to be ground is guided along the grinding wheel at appropriately set angles.

  • Patent number: 6655205
Abstract: A system for determining the suitable positioning of a first gear wheel in relation to a second gear wheel. The system comprises an evaluation unit and a roll-of device, which contains a first spindle for the rotatable seating of the first gear wheel, a second spindle for the rotatable seating of the second gear wheel and a drive mechanism for rotating the first gear wheel and a drive mechanism for acting with a positive or a negative torque on the second gear wheel. The roll-off device furthermore has a displacement device for changing the positioning of the first gear wheel in relation to the second gear wheel. A measurement pick-up device and two angle encoders are provided in the roll-off device and are connected with the evaluation unit.

  • Patent number: 6148098
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are described for optoelectronically determining the contact patterns on tooth flanks of gears. The tooth flanks of at least one gear (24) of a pair of gears (22, 24) to be tested are marked by application of a marking compound. Contact patterns (28) are formed on the points of contact of the tooth flanks during operation. These contact patterns are picked-up and stored as a first digital image. The first digital image serves to determine a second digital image containing the outline of the tooth flank. A third digital image which contains the contact pattern (28) is determined from the first digital image. The second and the third digital images are superimposed on each other to determine a fourth digital image of the tooth flank, which contains the outline thereof and has its contact pattern inscribed therein, and which can be analyzed to determine the position and size of the contact pattern with reference to the outline.

  • Patent number: 5934841
Abstract: A round bar cutting tool (10) and a cutter head (8) provided especially for the same are provided. The cutting tool has a shank with a generally round cross-section for being fixed by clamping means (28, 30) in a cutting tool receiving bore (12) of the cutter head (8). A substantially planar positioning surface (38) which serves as an engagement surface for the clamping means (28, 30) is located along the shank length in an extension of a cutting face (43) formed on the cutting end (40) of the round bar cutting tool (10), parallel to the longitudinal cutting tool axis. The cutting face (43) and the positioning surface (38) lie in the same plane parallel to the longitudinal cutting tool axis. The cutting face is not reground during sharpening and can therefore have a coating which increases the serviceable life of the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 5257882
Abstract: At the gear manufacturing machine there are automatically fabricated longitudinally curved tooth gears, especially longitudinally curved tooth bevel and hypoid gears according to conventional stock-removal form or generating methods. In order to improve both the mechanical stability and kinematic stability, the gear manufacturing machine contains only so-to-speak "natural" gear manufacturing or cutting axes, and, in particular, does not contain any hypoid stock, however, a generating drum. With the method of operating such gear manufacturing machine it is possible to fabricate hypoid gears during the generating operation by performing an additional movement of the workpiece in the lengthwise direction of the tooth pitch cone.

  • Patent number: 5255475
Abstract: The rotary form tool for finish machining tooth flanks of longitudinally curved teeth of a rough machined bevel gear blank of a hypoid or non-hypoid gear pair, comprises a tool body having the configuration of a hypoid helical bevel gear. Each tooth of the tool body is helically curved and has a longitudinally concave tooth flank and a longitudinally convex tooth flank. At least one tooth flank of the longitudinally concave tooth flanks and the longitudinally convex tooth flanks are coated with an abrading medium.
