  • Patent number: 8944000
Abstract: Discs (7) arranged along a shaft and having holders (8) distributed over the circumference, inclined outwards and intended for workpieces are supported on a ring (5) surrounding the discs (7). Successive rings (5) form an approximately cylindrical cladding which prevents undesired coating of the discs (7). Cladding has openings for the holders (8) of a disc (7) which are uniformly distributed over the circumference at the same height, each formed by an upper recess (14) in the ring (5) carrying the disc (7) and an adjacent lower recess (15) of the following ring. Boundary lines (17) between successive rings (5) start somewhat below the narrowest points of the webs separating adjacent openings, so that the lower recesses (15) do not narrow towards the edge of the ring (5) and the upper recesses (14) narrow at most slightly so that the workpiece carrier can be assembled from bottom to top.

  • Patent number: 8864959
Abstract: Planetary carriers (22) for workpieces mounted on a carousel (19) are provided within a vacuum chamber. A source (24) for a cloud comprising ions (CL) is provided so that a central axis (ACL) of the cloud intercepts the rotary axis (A20) of the carousel (19). The cloud (CL) has an ion density profile at the moving path (T) of planetary axes (A22) which drops to 50% of the maximum ion density at a distance from the addressed center axis (ACL) which is at most half the diameter of the planetary carriers (22). When workpieces upon the planetary carriers (22) are etched by the cloud comprising ions material which is etched off is substantially not redeposited on neighboring planetary carriers but rather ejected towards the wall of the vacuum chamber.

  • Patent number: 8765214
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pretreatment method to be applied to secondary surfaces in coating systems prior to coating. To this end, a non-stick coating is applied to the secondary surfaces, which can be easily detached from the secondary surfaces, even after coating material has been deposited thereon. In this way, the cleaning process of the coating system after the coating process is considerably simplified.

  • Publication number: 20140061034
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating work pieces in a vacuum treatment system having a first electrode embodied as a target, which is part of an arc vaporization source. Using the first electrode, an arc is operated with an arc current and vaporizes material. A bias voltage is applied to a bias electrode, which includes a second electrode that is embodied as a work piece holder, together with the work pieces. Metal ion bombardment is carried out either to pretreat the work pieces or in at least one transition from one layer to an adjacent layer of a multilayer system, so that neither a significant material removal nor a significant material buildup occurs, but instead, introduces metal ions into a substrate surface or into a layer of a multilayer system.
