  • Patent number: 7975814
Abstract: A steering damper system and method of regulating the fluid pressure of such a system are provided. The system can comprise a piston rod, a cylinder, a passage, and a damper portion. The damper portion can comprise a damper cavity, an outer piston, an inner piston, and a biasing component. The damper cavity can be in fluid communication with the passage. The outer piston can be slidably disposed in the damper cavity and define a chamber and a duct that is in fluid communication with the chamber and the passage. The inner piston can be slidably disposed in the chamber of the outer piston. The biasing component can exert an axial biasing force against the inner piston for regulating the pressure of fluid disposed in the system passing intermediate the passage, the damper cavity, and the chamber of the outer piston.

  • Publication number: 20110056782
Abstract: The invention relates to a pressurized hydraulic rotation damper intended for use on a multiwheeled vehicle. The rotation damper comprises an outer housing and a lid that together enclose a damping-medium-filled main chamber, which chamber is pressurized by a pressure tank and divided by a delimiting blade/arm into two volumes. The damping medium flows between the two volumes in a duct delimited by at least a first valve and a second valve. These valves throttle the flow between the volumes when the blade moves in an inward and outward motion respectively, starting from an intermediate position where the two volumes are substantially equal in size, to an outer position, in which the blade bears against or is placed close to the inner face of the outer housing. The first valve controls the flow for outward motions and the second valve is used to control the flow for inward motions to either pass through the first valve, through the second valve or through both valves.

  • Publication number: 20110017558
Abstract: A vehicle shock absorber generates an additional counter-force acting counter to the direction of movement near the limit position of movement. The shock absorber substantially comprises a damping medium-filled damping cylinder that is divided into two damping chambers by a main piston. The main piston is axially moveable relative to the damping cylinder and is attached to a piston rod. A second piston/damping piston that contains one or more first and second through-ducts is mounted to the piston rod. The ducts are defined by first and second flow-limiting devices such as multiple thin washers. The damping piston slides in a restricting space located in the damping cylinder. The restricting space has an inside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the damping cylinder. The additional counter-force is substantially constant throughout the entire stroke in order to create gentle braking of the damping movement.

  • Publication number: 20090314592
Abstract: A damper device is manufactured from a single integrated body. The damper device comprises a damping chamber portion, a valve housing portion with adjustable valve devices and a pressurization reservoir portion. The internal volume of the damping chamber portion is divided by a piston into a compression chamber and a return chamber and the internal volume of the pressurization reservoir portion is divided by a member that is acted upon by a pressure that pressurizes the damping medium in the device. The three different portions are arranged substantially parallel to one another and the internal volume of the valve housing is connected both to the pressurized interior of the pressurization reservoir and to both chambers of the damping chamber part so that the damper always functions with a positive pressure in both the compression and the return chamber. The body is extruded as a single workpiece with alternating heat-conducting channels and fins on its outer surface.

  • Patent number: 7607522
Abstract: A damper for vehicles is arranged with selectable or adjustable damping force characteristics that are essentially independent of other internal or external function factors in the damper. For this, fixing devices and a surrounding arrangement, piston arrangement and piston rod arrangement are utilized. In the event of a damping force arising on the arrangement's piston in a certain direction of the piston, an operating device with valves and pipes is arranged to ensure that there is an increase in pressure on the side of the piston facing towards the direction, while the pressure is essentially maintained on the side of the piston facing away from the direction. In addition, pressure-maintaining devices are included that ensure that the pressure in the arrangement is maintained in the event of the occurrence of pressure-affecting parameters. The damper is preferably arranged with adjusting devices that determine the damping force characteristics according to their setting.

  • Publication number: 20090260934
Abstract: A shock absorber comprises a damping cylinder pressurized by a system pressure and divided by a piston into a compression chamber and a return chamber. A resilient device is disposed in the return chamber. The resilient device comprises a pressurizing member or pressurizing medium disposed in an inner volume that is delimited from the return chamber. The resilient device acts upon the damping medium volume in the return chamber such that the pressure initially during a compression stroke does not fall below a predetermined minimum pressure. As long as the pressure in the return chamber is less than the pressure created by the resilient device, the device is able to absorb energy. When the pressure in the return chamber is greater than the pressure created by the resilient device, the device becomes inflexible. The resilient device compensates for pressure reduction in the return chamber that occurs under rapid damping movements and that can cause cavitation during a compression stroke.

  • Publication number: 20090166989
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device in a vehicle damper which comprises a damping medium-filled damper body (2), in which an element (5, 5?) forming a seal against the damper body divides the damper body into two chambers (2a, 2b). A microprocessor control unit (SU) is coupled to one or more valve and connecting arrangements (4a, 4b, 4c), comprising at least one valve and a number of flow ducts. Respective valves and flow ducts of the valve and connecting arrangement (4a, 4b, 4c) are coupled both to respective damper chambers (2a, 2b) and a pressurizing element (3) common to both of the chambers, so that even in the chamber in which a low pressure prevails there is a positive pressure acting at all times.
